Do tell. Has this been reported? I have not seen, but would be interested to see what type of figures we are talking.
Low six figures…which is up for interpretation in todays world for if that is considered a bag or not

I don't like the new reality of the transfer portal madness more than anybody else ... the days of watching a player like Dee Brown in an Illini jersey for four seasons in a row and play three of those with 90% the same team seem like such a distant memory that it's unreal.

With that said, I'm highly skeptical that some of you won't be just as invested in next year's team if we are winning, lol ... when Trent and 'Monte and Kofi left us, nobody here thought TSJ would be in an Illini jersey someday, let alone one of the greats. Last offseason, I didn't even know who Marcus Domask WAS, and I'm positive very few people thought he had the chance to be an all-conference player.

If we are winning games next year and look primed for another deep NCAA Tournament run, we'll ~all of a sudden~ "love this team," haha. Again, I miss the old days of pre-transfer mania ... but at the end of the day, we cheer for the program and the "laundry," as some have said. And we will learn to love whoever is repping the Fighting Illini.
but the other side of that coin is if we are not successful, will interest drop off? This is why I've said Underwood better win. Because if you literally do a line change with the roster, you've taken away one of the draws to the team. So if I'm watching a bunch of strangers finish 6th in conference. That's not going to go over well.

What in the world are you talking about? Every other post I read is someone freaking out or not being able to follow along with the thread and asking about players that have been talked about over and over. I didn’t even mention people freaking out and you put worlds in my mouth. Why do you feel the need to interject all the time with baseless arguments? It’s gotten beyond annoying to be honest.
What about the posters who appear to be freaking out, but are not really freaking out, because there are so many variables now that will influence the final composition of the team that a freak out would be energy and effort misdirected.. "_

This year's transfer portal is the greatest collection of names ever assembled.
Yeah some of them are seriously in the running for greatest sports names of all time.

I’ve always been partial to: Rollie Fingers, Catfish Hunter, Mookie Blaylock, Leaky Black…and of course newer addition Dain Dainja.

But SO many great ones now…

I suspect that I will still watch every game. Not with the same passion as this past year, that felt "special". But, will still watch and cheer and hope that they can get hot at the right time. 6th in conference next year is top 1/3. Also, since several of the players (at least currently) are multi-years of eligibility, there is a chance that they come back and develop into something special for 25/26. We can watch the team grow, if they stay for it.

Lol Nico has always been a non-factor to me. But what is the plan???? Where are we going to get an entire new roster from??

There is definitely some truth to that, but what happens when the team is mediocre? Fans will no longer have as much of a connection to the players on the team, which makes it a lot easier to sever the connection when things aren't going well. If a team is winning, everything will be great. If a team is having a down season, how many people are going to stick around to watch a bad team full of players they don't know?

You think this board is going "nuclear" now, wait until we have a bad, early season loss or don't make it to the second weekend. This place will go bonkers with "Shudda kept....." "I miss....."

Good lord you think some posters are freaking out? Wait till BU gets back in the country and finds out Nicco has entered the portal. He’ll have to get back on the plane and head off again looking for another player again. Poor guy.

They recently changed that rule, grad transfers now also have to enter portal by May 1st. Could that rule be challenged? Yes, and quite possibly the NCAA would lose since they have lost most of these challenges recently.
Was wondering about grad transfers, if they had another window if they needed the summer to graduate...so do a Google AI search & it came up with the following exception. Note it thinks it is already past May 1, so wondering if the exception for a coaching change is still out there & if indeed it is only head coach or assistants count as well? If true, then as long as the coaching carousel keeps playing out, we may see additional entries. For reference, looks like Pope was announced as KY coach April 12, so in theory KY players have until ~May 12 to file?

The deadline for most basketball players to enter the transfer portal to be eligible immediately in the 2024-25 season has already passed. It was on May 1st, 2024.

However, there is a slight exception:

  • Players who experience a coaching change at their current school can still enter the portal within 30 days of the coaching change. This gives them some flexibility if their situation changes due to new leadership.

Just an alternative thought....why does any poster or fan need to know? We will in time.

If we land Humrichous we def didn’t have space for him, Booth and Amos
Not even saying I wanted him anymore with who we have/ will have just the fact of WI getting another local IL kid who is decent at the least.
