Then you take into account that 2 left with the coach who recruited them… It’s hardly an indictment on our coaching staff. It’s college basketball in the 2020’s… It’s not what it was.
3 left on their own. 2 left with Frazier. The others ran out of eligibility.

Well we just seem to be waiting, for what I have no idea but I loved the years when Kofi, Ayo, TSJ, Coleman came back that was fun. This upcoming year does not feel the same, at least to this point.
Hopefully a year from now we will get some of these guys with eligibility to stick around and have some continuity

This has gotten ridiculous. Completely new team. Don't know what players to root for any longer, player wise, still root for the Illini. Next year will not be good in my opinion. Not sure how to correct this nonsense but we illini fans will not be happy next year. I will be rooting for our team but we are in trouble as of now. This is not sustainable.

As of this moment, this hasn't happened, but if we wind up with none of our top transfer targets and wind up having to settle for our 3rd/4th choices, that will be an indictment of our coaching staff. I'm not here trying to throw shade at our coaches or trying to judge this transfer portal incoming group prior to its completion. Just objecting to making excuses for our staff for not succeeding at their jobs. All reports I've read indicate that we have plenty of NIL. There is no reason we shouldn't land at least one top transfer target given the season we just had and our facilities, resources, and the conference we play in. If that's what happens, it WILL indicate that Brad and staff fell down this off season.

I understand exactly how you feel. I note only that OUR staff didn't create these issues but they do need to solve them. Our blessings and dollars and hollers help. I am with the staff, and yet I am concerned. Hail to the Orange and ... let's win the BIG prize ... and let's right the disaster that is NCAA men's basketball, a disaster that has been forseen for several years now.

Very true. We need to give them a couple more weeks to let it play out

Geeze… so many people here see the frame of a house under construction and say “that won’t keep the rain out!!!”

Let the workers do their thing. If come November, the frame is still all that’s standing, THEN feel free to panic.

Of course everything 'reported' here is a rumor. Insiders' welcome info included. Even if Brad Underwood showed up with a DNA test in his sweaty hand and said "I got this dude in the bag!" it would still be a rumor. That's fine. Like everything online, or maybe honestly everything in life except what your mother or spouse whispers in your ear, it's wishful thinking. Ain't nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. What a dumb statement, grrrr.

The NCAA can't do it. What if the long-awaited union between the Big Ten and SEC could?

Is that a monopoly acting in restraint of trade? Or is it a market actor governing itself for its commercial benefit in a competitive landscape?

Say the Big Ten and SEC dedicated a percentage of their TV revenue to set up an NIL consortium of their own providing a substantial wage floor for the revenue sport athletes within those two conferences, available to any incoming player for four full years so long as they remain a student in good standing, and the schools forbade transfers between one another. Not a sit out year, no transfers period.

Players can transfer in from outside the Big Two. Players can leave the Big Two freely (but would be giving up their TV contract money to do so, and are entitled to that money whether they're on the team or not, so they don't have to accept a Creaning). But within the Big Two, once you choose a school, you (and the school recruiting you) are locked in for good.
So, in the cases of public universities those student athletes become public employees paid with public funds? And how would any athlete’s compensation rise above the wage floor?

I'm very much spitballing here, but the idea is that the conference, via the TV networks, creates a pathway for purchasing the NIL rights of the players that's separate from the Universities (given that this revenue is for broadcasting the players, there's a degree of truth in that).

And players would still be free to sell their NIL on the open marketplace (which means totally unregulated pay-for-play as we can see), it's just that players in those conferences would get that extra leg up, enhancing the advantage most of the programs in those conferences already have anyway.

I'm not certain antitrust law would allow this, but you could make the case with a straight face, a privilege the NCAA has lost.

Well, it's quite a bit more than your opinion. It's pretty much everyone although what does "top" mean? I'd also say it's at such a critical position I don't really think it's arguable.

That said, with the number of players leaving, we really need at least three top 50 guys to get to the top 25 level.

Get old stay old. Current players weren’t willing to get old with the program.

Love the make up of the roster. Good chance for several guys to play multiple years.

Still missing a star or multiple stars to replace Shannon/domask but fortunately practice/season doesn’t start till the fall
how is that get old stay old

Isn't Boswell a top transfer?
