So by the end of tomorrow we will officially know once and for all whose in the portal and not in the portal. Correct?

Not necessarily ... Teams have 48 hours to process the portal request ...

Players only have to make contact to say they are entering the portal ... This could be as simple as a text at 11:59 PM tonight to their coach that says "I will be entering the portal" and the 48 hours would start ...

Wow I had no idea the process was that informal to initiate. Gives new meaning to the 'portal wild west' type comments.

Call it a self-serving take if you want, but I think it's the truth: to forgive or brush away the roster construction failures of last summer is to underrate the amazing coaching job of the following season. They go hand in hand.

BU recruited his way into a straightjacket and handcuffs at the bottom of a lake and coached his way out of it. An extraordinary performance of finding a way to make talented but ill-fitting pieces into a humming machine.

Let's make it easier this time!
That's one of the great back-handed compliments of all time!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: I think it was a combo of underestimating Domask's overall ability and an exceptional job coaching. Even with the defensive struggles late in the year, which I think had a lot to do with pace-of-play but that's just me.

Is there any chance that for the past 2 summers, Ty has thought, or been told, don't worry about being able to shoot. Don't even practice it. And definitely don't work with any of our professional coaches on improving.

Why would you imagine this summer he will suddenly become "really really good" when he has not shown progress before? Or do you mean, he'll get really really good at the things he can do, and it's okay if shooting isn't one of them?
To say he has not shown progress is out there, but I’ll scoot past that. I understand he hasn’t made progress shooting but if you think this team last year is the same if a freshman Ty was starting at PG then you and I were watching different games the past 2 years.

For one, I think that Ty Rodgers inability to shoot is a combination of both a mental block and the fact that he was told not to. I say this because his free throw shot actually looked okay (Stephen Bardo commented this same thing multiple times) and people can go from non-shooters to reliable shooters with training between seasons (Hunter Dickinson.) Three point shooting is not hard, I have seen 6th graders get a decent hang of it over the course of a season- Ty Rodgers can become a DECENT shooter. So, I would not just outright say that shooting cannot be one of the things that he improves on, even if it is just FT shooting.

But yes, I do think he was told not to worry about shooting, because he did not need to. The coaching staff may still feel that he does not need to learn to shoot well, I don’t know. But I think if Ty and the staff want to make Ty Rodgers a DECENT shooter, it is 100% possible. Also, yes I did mean that he can get really really good at the things he already does well, even if shooting isn’t one of them.

Brea to UK. With both Brea and Ortega, does that take UK out of the running for any remaining stud wings, if not from an NIL perspective at least from a role perspective?

If so, who does that leave that’s in the market for a stud wing? Think KU and Arkansas are out. Would someone want to go to UNC and have to share the ball with Davis? To Duke to share the ball with Flagg? Does Duke even portal like that?

Think our TJ role and associated bag is still attractive and may be even more so than it was a couple of weeks ago.

Well, getting the rug pulled out by RayJ is a one-time blunder that can be corrected going forward, whereas the outstanding coaching flexibility is an ongoing asset, so for me it’s not a backhanded compliment at all.

We did in fact go all out for RayJ as the target, which is to say we never intended Domask as a primary ballhandler, a task he was very limited at. But we made it work.

Hopefully some coming additions make things a little more straightforward and conventional next year. Boswell is a great start in that regard, we have our PG

I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm & your reports are definitely on the optimistic side, which I appreciate. Having said that, a couple of points on your comment:

1) There was a ton of angst about the PG position and it certainly worked out, but you have to admit that the concern was justified.

2) Comparing last year's offseason to this one is apples & oranges b/c last year you had 2 known commodities: TSJ & CH. We could overcome a lot of deficiencies last year b/c we had the BEST wing in the country & a guy who could just do so many things & was a big-time culture guy. This year has way more unknowns which makes it much more difficult to assess.
And why was Illinois Loyalty expecting RJDennis? The information shared on this board was extremely positive regarding getting him, similar to the view/explanation of getting a top CG for 24-25. Hope Illinois gets a scoring CG for next year to replace the talented guys who have moved on.

We are coming off 29-9 BTT champion, Elite 8 season, lost to NCAA champion and people are complaining about team roster construction.

Roster was excellent
- got All American TSJ to return for 5th year
- got 3rd team All big ten Coleman to return for 4th year
- Brought in 1st team all big 10 Marcus Domask to give us great 2nd scoring option and handle ball vs press and half court trap
- Brought in 5th year senior starter Quincy who provide solid 3 point shooting and rebounding
- Brought in 5th year CG Justin provided 3 point shooting, PG defense and ball handling

Brad did a fantastic job in roster construction and coaching last season. He was not lucky getting Domask. He recruited him because he knew Marcus would help.
