It has been a busy week with it being the end of the semester and finals starting this week at my institution. I thought I was going to miss out on some legit recruiting and portal news, but after browsing the thread from yesterday and this morning, I am thinking that my silly season came at a good time.

Yikes, everyone. It's May 2. Take a break and go outside. Have a beer or a whiskey or a sparkling water or whatever it is that floats your boat. Then let's reconvene in like a month after the NBA withdrawal deadline and see where we really stand.

won't be able to truly compare former team vs current team - but as of right now, my vote is that the current team beats the former team 9 out of 10 games.

We're not done with the class. I think we already have or easily will get better at those roles.

-Dainja averaged 8 mpg b/c he couldn't be trusted on D. A bench scorer is replaceable.
-Goode had to be hidden b/c teams attacked him on D and was wildly inconsistent in rebounding. Humrichous.
-Hansberry played limited minutes due to a back problem. Morez & Booth are better prospects.
-Harris couldn't shoot and isn't playable with Ty. Tre.
-Butler is a >top 100 freshman PG. Boswell.

Dainja has a lot of limitations and struggles against bigger defenders but he was a big part of why they won the Big10 tourney(they don't beat OSU without him) and he was a huge part of pulling away from Morehead St.

However his limitations kind of make him a bench player that can be situationally great. He wanted more money and a bigger role. Good for him.

You know it is not that BU is doing poorly in the portal or anything wrong at all. It is just more that the game is now a race to flip the best chest pieces to you board as rapidly as possible.

i get it if you say under 40, but for those of us in our 60’s and beyond we remember Deon, and Quinn Richardson, and Doug Altenburger, and Eddie Johnson walking senior night.

For me Deon will always be the most special after all he went through and is probably the greatest Illini of all time. It is just sad to see that era end.

Yes before you jump me, I want to win a championship, just wish it was done the way it was 20 years ago.

And we're operating at a net loss. We're deep in the red and desperately need a scoring wing and a big man to get back into the black.

We're not operating a net loss on transfers, which is what the post was referring to.

If the transfer rankings were net transfers out and transfers in, we'd still be well in the black.

Are you saying our current team of 5 transfers, 2 vets and 2-3 walk-ons would beat our Elite 8, top five Illini team of the past 25 years, 9 out of 10 times?

I don't know that I would even say that if we got David Jones, PJ Hall and the best Euro out there. Maybe I'm misunderstanding....

I believe they mean the people we have just brought in compared to the ones who have transferred out. Not the whole team.

My thoughts on every new recruitment thread the last 2 weeks with the endless panic about the current state of the roster. But very sound advice that will get ignored by many.

No I am saying the current roster would beat those on 23/24 that could have stayed for 24/25: Goode, Dain, Harris, Hansberry, Nico, Butler.

IMO The 5 transfers are an upgrade to the Illinois roster. And I doubt we are done portaling yet.

Oh, sure, but we could have all of both groups if we wanted. We could be done, that could be our team.

The question is whether where we go from here improves the roster from that baseline. It can and should, but too early to tell.
