I think that Coleman's loyalty and respect does not get enough attention ... Kid cares so much about this place ... He stayed loyal when he wasn't playing ... Never transferred ... Never flirted with the portal ... Brad brought in new guys and Coleman sees that maybe it's time to move on ...

Ideally in the NBA but maybe elsewhere ... The portal was not a thought until they moved the entry deadline ...

Took us farther than Ayo and Kofi did while playing 60% healthy ... And I don't want that to just get swept under the rug ... Great kid, and great family ...
To me, his comments to Goodman spoke volumes about multiple things here. He pretty bluntly stated that if he does return to college basketball, it won't be at Illinois. He also mentioned he thought it would be unfair of him to do so because of the new kids coming in who made that choice assuming he would be gone and deserve a chance to shine. He also mentioned he wouldn't play in the B1G if he comes back.

To me that implies he respects basically everything about our process. He is dead set on the NBA but knows it's not a sure thing and that keeping the coaching staff and team in limbo makes things a lot harder for us. And he also won't go to a conference rival.

Kudos to Coleman. I hope he finds a fit in the NBA.

Bingo ...

If he does come back to college ... Anywhere but UNC or UCONN would shock me ...

Oh I'm not saying Nico gets a spot in the rotation as things are constructed.

But counting on that same group to be available and healthy and performing for every game of a whole season, especially given the youth and newness of the group, is not a reasonable assumption.

A developing true true PG will find some spot minutes here or there (as he did last season), and is always an eye blink away from more.
I think you're forgetting that Demin's natural position is PG also. We'll have plenty of ball handling.

Honestly...IMHO...the best route to take at this moment in time is to land Egor, add a quality wing from the portal, redshirt Jakstys, leave 1 open.

Thought that was what we had in mind all along...until today...but we shall see...

Jakstys might as well be perceived as not here because, redshirt or not, he's not playable as a freshman. Two scholarships open is effectively leaving three scholarships open. One or two injuries, with a team well constructed with complementary parts, could be problematic. I would be more than happy to have Moretti back. This team still doesn't have a ton of creativity on offense like Nico can provide (for good and bad). Bringing someone like that back who can add depth and is stylistically very different than the rest of the team only seems like a benefit, with the understanding that Nico would have to be the one who wants to come back.

You mean like Kylan, Tomislav, Egor/Kadary?

Also a lot of high major coaches love Humrichous
Yeah that dude is talkin crazy…

Let’s go through some of our guys…

Kylan: 5 star PG out of high school, started on a top 10 team, top 40 transfer nationally, 3rd year of eligibility but just turned 19….projected first round pick

Tomislav: 7”1 rim protector, can shoot it, moves well for his size, projected 2nd round pick in next years draft…

Humrichous: 15/5/2 while shooting 48/41/78 split on a decent Evansville team… Reminds me a ton of Hausser from MSU…6”9

Carey Booth: 6”10 sophomore, can score at all 3 levels, athletic, long.. legitimate NBA prospect

Tre White: 6”7 wing, athletic, former top 50 high school kid, played on a good USC team his freshman year, proven he can score at HM level, tons of potential, still has NBA potential…

Jake Davis: Sniper.. 6”6..soph…can’t have too many shooters 🤷🏻‍♂️

Morez: Highest rated recruit since Ayo…. Illinois Mr. basketball…Need I say more?

DGL: dog. Bought in. Second year in system… we all know what his potential can be…

Ty: Started on our B1G Tourney champ & elite 8 team… Absolute dog. Team guy. Big guard. Junkyard dog…. Can handle the ball well for his size…unselfish.. elite instincts… obviously we love him (at least most of us 🙄)

Potential adds:

Egor Demin: lottery pick, 6”8 PG.. Would be one of the best players in the country…

Kadary Richmond: First Team All-Big East… TSJ replacement…One of the best players in the country… DOG

Nico: we love Nico

That’s a lot of young talent mixed with a few veterans.. unbelievable size & shooting.. versatile….

The people complaining about what this staff is doing is crazy… we up.
