All Brad needs to do is offer the 2nd best player on the team that Egor is going to a little more money and we are back in business and we screw that team over.

Bingo ... I kid you not, tonight I step away from my phone for 15 minutes and come back to a completely different scenario regarding 2 players ...
It's wild for me to imagine what kind of life you live where you are getting constant updates on these things and that is considered normal.

Right now with without any adds, we are 9 strong and deep.

There are at least five NBA future players.

Compare position to position from last year‘s team and we look to be better and that was the sixth ranked team in the country. TSJ is the outlier.

Demin was going to replace TSJ but I guarantee someone else will.

Go ILLINI
TJ is one hell of an outlier.

Who is going to replace an All American that carried us through the Big Ten Tournament and for the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament? We were a good team last year, but not a great team until TJ went nuclear for a two week stretch. He was a 30 PPG scorer during that stretch. Nothing even remotely close to that type of bucket getter and defender will be here.

FIVE future NBA players? Who? If we had five future NBA players, we'd be top 5 to start the year. We'll be nowhere close to that.

You're right about one thing. The addition of Egor would have changed the outlook considerably because he actually is a first round talent.

What a joke, why do we always get our hopes up with these high profile recruits just to never pay them

Sounds to me like all the other programs are catching up to our NIL money and maybe even surpassing it. We came out of the NIL gates fast, but fell back to the pack….

Everyone on this board pretends everything is okay as if all the top transfers/recruits that we were supposedly “in the lead for” (storr, maddox, demin) have gone elsewhere. May as well pay them if that’s what every other program is doing, we don’t have that many spots left and money has been said to “not be an issue” for illinois.

To put it into perspective our top guy last year made between 750k and 900k. Now we’re just supposed to pay Egor 2 mil?
I'm not arguing that it's a lot of money, but this new, unregulated system, just like housing in the early 2000s, is bubbling up. Money is being thrown at it with no regard as teams find new ways to get dollars into their programs.

Maybe $2M is too much, but the market is only going up right now. $2M next year may be a top 10 player. Overpaying now for a future lottery pick and maybe some access to European talent is a small price to pay.

It wasn't...until it was....until it wasn't. Just wild times we are in right now

So much conflicting information being told as well on so many different fronts

Well, here's the thing...when the only thing people report to fans is what they're told to report, it's not going to be consistently reliable information. And much of it is circular reporting that takes on a life of its own.

Now that Egor is a miss, you'll see the typical backtracking, excuse making, and revisionist history. Unnecessary, really. The coaching staff moves on to the next.

Not to sound too negative...just trying to project the truth...

Right now, if the roster we currently have is the roster in November...I see us having a Iowa type season

I imagine 2 things are true. The insiders get good information AND that information is potentially outdated within hours as player demands change and new teams enter the bidding.
I think of it as an auction on eBay. Price will be driven up as bids are entered towards the very end of an auction.
How can Brad not know about the "Buy It Now" button?!?
