The name fits.
I looked up La Bamba's and they still have 7 locations in 3 states including one in downtown Chicago. Who knew?
They also recently changed their fries. They are no longer fresh cut with skin on.
Stopped in at their strip mall site several years ago. The guy who served us said the brothers were in St. Louis that weekend at a balloon festival … still manning the Flying Tomato!

I visited the LaBamba on Mattis last year. Like Garcia's, its a shell of what it used to be in the 90s. Quality and flavor not close to what was. A shame.

If you ever go to San Diego get a California burrito and LaBamba seems like a distant memory
I've consistently heard San Diego has ridiculous Mexican food but still never been. Will be top of the list when I do.

We're pretty much killing it on recruiting and portal. Guys not cutting it at other schools really isn’t our target.

Sir, you don't have to go to San Diego for better burritos than La Bamba. Most places within a few hundred miles of the border or any major American city will do.
But if you do go to San Diego, go to Miguel's Cocina on Coronado Island.
Lived there 15 years, but that was a long while ago. You can get good Mexican everywhere there, just depends on which tier/class of re$taurant you want. I've had amazing burritos (still dream of Roberto's Carne Asada) at late night drive throughs, and amazing 4 $$$$tar sit downs establishments. There is tons of great food of ANY ethnic variety to be had in San Diego!!!
Arturos at Western and Armitage; best on the north side imho.

I'm in San Diego about once a year so this is helpful.
EDIT: Oh, you weren't talking about San Diego anymore. Dang. I'm in San Diego more often than I'm in Chicago.

I still miss Zorba's. Had a lot of Zorba's, Legends, and Dorca's back in the day. Good times.

There was a picture of me hanging in Zorba's in the form of the News Gazette clipping from the 2007 win at Ohio State. It was my claim to fame in Champaign. When Zorba's went up in flames, so did my lasting impact.
I live in Chicago and my buddy would do a taco crawl every year on West Town. Found plenty of good Mexican food in that neighborhood... But so many good spots all over Chicago. I am definitely spoiled and never think about la Bamba for food... Just the fun that led to going to la Bamba.
That being said, I've heard San Diego and lot of the places near the border are another level... I'm excited to find out
