It's weird because he's very open-minded in general - I would say way more than most coaches. He has no problem changing offensive strategies to suit his roster from season to season, which a lot of coaches won't do. But it seems like he has a few games each year, where it's obvious what the opponent is doing, and he doesn't make a change in-game. The Loyala tournament game being a perfect example - anyone could see what Loyala was running and we did nothing to counter it and they just keep doing it.

That said, there is no perfect coach. Even the all-time greats have bad games (and bad seasons if they coach long enough). We're sensitive to Brad's negatives because we watch every game. But we don't have that same awareness with other coaches.
Completely agree. He's been phenomenal about changing his Offense to get the most out of his personnel.

My problem has been his stubbornness on trusting his metrics based game plan over TAKING AWAY WHAT THE OTHER TEAM DOES BEST.

Easy example:

90% of players should be guarded ((forced)) to go left, because it's their off hand. If you take this metric and apply it to your defense versus 2023-24 Illini???
TSJ drops 40 on your head.

Yes, he's worth it. Expect him to take a massive leap after he works with Fletch and gets used to the college game for a year. The talent is all there
I agree that I think the jump for Riley from his freshman season to his sophomore season would be massive.

How can you say he’s worth it until you know what he will be asking?

Because the staff has a good idea?
My point is, you said he is worth it, but unless YOU are tied to the staff how can you say he’s worth it? Write a blank check?
I think Indy’s point was to wait and see what kind of NIL $$ Riley will be asking for.

From a cost compared to return perspective I have to assume that KJ is the biggest value/$ on the roster this year. Can you share who is on the lower end? Will? I have to assume a 5star freshman gets a good amount of NIL, and while he hasn't been terrible and there are a lot of games left to play, I wonder if he's the one we're getting the lowest value/$? I understand if you can't really answer the question directly, but anything you can share that would shed a little more light on this would be appreciated.

My biggest worry with him is that at this point he isn't very quick/explosive. He struggles to get by his man routinely. Strength will help but building strength is way easier than building explosive ability. He routinely pases up opportunities for squared up set shots to try and create fade away, off balance shots, but I think maturity will cure that. I'm honestly curious as someone who has no clue, about what you see that makes you so optimistic. What do you see as his strengths that he can build on?

Has there been any studies done on re-classing to go to college a year faster and how that fared throughout modern history? Curious.

I think he’s just in a bad slump…That jumper will start to fall, he’ll regain confidence and we’ll all be reminded why league scouts are intrigued

I like Riley and hope (suspect) the coaches are taking the long view.

Riley needs to play with his advantage: his height and length.

He’s never going to be a blow by guard but he’ll make a heck of a distributor at the point and be able to shoot over his defender. We’ve seen glimpses of it.

He just needs to get stronger to finish his shots.
