This has nothing to do with recruiting but I feel like sharing because I am grieving. We put down Sugarbell yesterday afternoon and I don't wish it on anyone. My 18 year told daughter got her for Christmas in 2012. She was a great dog. Man, do I miss her so much already. Dogs are amazing but man does it hurt when they are gone. Rest well Sugarbell.

Sorry for hijacking this thread with something unrelated to recruiting. Thanks for indulging me.
So so so sorry for your loss. We had to go through the same with my dog of almost 15 years, right after Thanksgiving. She was with me before I even met my wife. It still hurts but it does get better, and in a few weeks you'll be able to think back on your best times with her without turning into a complete mess, which is nice. Hang in there.

Here are some highlights from ND for Booth. Looks like a completely different player. I can absolutely see why someone would think this guy would start for us. It doesn't always work out the way it should work out. See e.g. AJ Storr.

Problem with Booth is he may be the softest player ever to put on an Illini uniform.

So sorry. She looks like a cute, friendly dog. I still miss my dogs terribly, and it has been three years since the last one died. I would love to give another dog a nice home, but my heart just can’t take the loss anymore. I miss my cats, too.

@jjv0004 I am so very sorry. As many dog owners here have said, I know exactly how much this hurts. It’s really hard to lose our precious pups who are part of our family. After I put my Mimi, my ❤️ dog of 13 years down, I couldn’t stand the loneliness and quiet, and I bought another dog, Misty. It’s never the same, but trying to train that new puppy took my mind off of losing Mimi. Hopefully, an Illini win tonight will ease a little of your grief. 🧡💙

This is probably a majority view, but I think any player that wants to come back should be welcomed to return. This includes Tre, Ben, and even Booth. I suspect their NIL payments would all decline considerably, but the scholarship should remain available. I suspect that might even be an NCAA requirement in the White and Booth cases.
At one time, the B10 would not allow for a scholarship to be revoked during the student's four-year tenure. Is that no longer the case?

I don't think teams really "revoke" scholarships now. They just tell kids they have no path to playing time and no NIL if they stay and it works itself out because kids don't want that when they can get it elsewhere.

Is there any examples of "hold outs" for any D-1 teams? Can't think of one off the top of my head but if a player that had potential for minutes elsewhere but hung around and road the bench multiple years in a row?

For example, if Carey Booth was dead set on getting an Aerospace Engineering degree from UIUC for his future job at Lockheed, he would hold out to maintain his scholarship. Or if he found a nice Champaign girlfriend he didn't want to leave.

FWIW, I think it is an NCAA rule and not just a B1G rule. Still, when a coach writes a player's name on the far end of the bench and tells him "that is where you will sit for the next four years" few players are likely to remain seated.

But if any player wants to stay for the education, I say more power to him.

Hypothetically, if this happened and it was holding up a big get, couldnt NIL just pay for the big get as a walk on? or say "Carey we will pay for your education"?

Also, isn't fifteen the new scholarship roster limit? We have room, especially considering walk-on spots can be pulled at any time.

LOL, you seriously just went back to screenshot his post on April 9th ?
There's quite a few older alumni here who take this content, send to group chat, and expect to be seen as omniscient.

If one of our boys is wrong with a read on the program these people can't accept it.

Good lord..who is that guy? What the hell happened?

Well, it's called a highlight film. I never thought he was a top pick up. Tall and athletic but I think he shot more threes than twos. Thats a major red flag for me for a guy that you want to give you minutes at the four.
In the old sense of the 4, I agree. But Brad designed this team to shoot 3s in abundance, which he thought fit CB real well. Obviously, that didn’t quite work out lol. And, we need to take some more twos lol.

Lol..so tell me what his "highlight film" looks like this year! My point was we haven't seen one of those plays and it's February

I didn’t use the picture to be seen as omniscient to a “group chat” and I’m not an older alumni. I’m a basketball fan that is also entitled to my own opinion. I took that picture at the time because we are supposed to believe there are people on here who know more about the program than the rest of us. Which, I do generally believe for the select few that give insider information. But that does not mean that every opinion they give is correct. And anyone who goes against their opinion is basically crucified for it. This stems from an opinion that Will Riley is not worth the supposed asking price to come back to the Illini given he isn’t drafted. Idk about everyone else here, but I don’t remember an abundance of five stars just growing on trees for us. And I do believe he’s won us some games this year as a reclass freshman off the bench.

Actually I took a screenshot it when it was posted because I thought it was a ridiculous take at that time. Seems to be a fair assessment at this point.

It isn't too early to plan for next year. Not by we fans, but by the coaching staff.

Does that mean this season if over? No, no way.

But next season is coming fast, this season is troubling, and the mistakes that have been made need to be overcome. I could care less about blame, but I couldn't care more about overcoming what has come in the past and shall not be allowed to bring it low again.

If anyone needs good news, Dame Sarr visiting Illinois soon and very well may commit on the trip. Big athletic wing, would be a great get
We have a great sales pitch:

Look at this other 6'6 Euro player we have no scheme for!

I'm being salty, but if I were Dame, I'd be asking very hard questions on offensive schemes and how I get shots. I think he'd be a great early add for our team.

If his commitment is based on "how I get shots" he will love us. Walk the ball up, look up and notice 6 seconds have already passed and remember the coach loves the shot up in 7 seconds. Disregard how far away you are or how hard the shot is just let it fly and when/if we get the rebound you will see the coach clapping. Not because you made the wild shot, but because he is convinced that's a great "offense". "how I get shots" players love Brad!!!
