Maybe our ticket for a national title is to put players on the Tim Anderson compensation plan.

We'll give you a million dollars but you can never step on a court for us or anyone else.

Stack up 25 or so of those deals and clear the field.

I legitimately lol'd

Good stuff haha

Well we can't roster every team's best player, not enough spots for that, unfortunately

Would be nice though lol

Not many bigs play 30 minutes a game.

Guys like Edey and Kofi playing 30+ minutes per game are rare. Kofi only averaged 27 as a sophomore.

Johni Broome was an all American last year and averaged under 25 minutes while being at 28.7 this year.
25 it is!

While there are plenty of minutes for 3 elite big men, it isn't the minutes distribution that you have to contend with. The question for them will be, "Who is on the court when the game is on the line?" You can't answer with "whomever is playing better that day" and beat out 2 dozen other high-quality programs. Guys don't just want to win; they want to be the REASON they won. Otherwise, the best guys would all just play on the same team, every year.

Keep Tomi and Morez and find the "Next Tomi or Morez" to back them up. If Z leaves Cal, he's going to have every option you can imagine. While playing with his brother could be a draw, backing up his brother probably isn't going to cut it.

Really hoping Morez is back. Not only stayed firm with his commitment, but never seems to be a ME player. All through high school and summer leagues was a beast as a 'lunch pail' type of guy. Especially in the camp environment. Get 18 and 13, doing the dirty work and has been the same type of player here.

Brad should be able to get 4 back easy. DGL, Morez, TI, Boswell. Those are key contributors that should not want to go anywhere else. If not he has failed. We only get 1 or 2 of those we are in trouble. All his talk of culture is already falling on deaf ears, this would solidify it.

Do we want Kylan back though? I'm kind of back and forth on this. Part of it depends on Ty Rodgers because to me you'd never be able to have both players on the floor, that'd put way too much scoring pressure on the other three guys.

I am resigned to the fact that Ty will not be back.

Absolutely. You can't teach heart and hustle, and Kylan gives us both in spades. And if we get the coaching staff makeover that we're asking for, I think there's no doubt his shooting will improve.

If Boswell wants to stay, I think you take into extra consideration that’s he a Champaign kid and put more resources to address his areas that need improvement and do what you can to either get him to stay or work mutually to find a good program for his next landing spot so there’s no bad blood at the end of the day. If we get a true PG next year, DGL is the better fit of the two if we had make a decision on who should return.

Boswell should have an excellent year next year. It might yet start this year. The question is where.

Does he see his problems as a result of the coaching? Are they the result of the coaching?

That's the question he and those who advise him are asking.

Someone had asked sarcastically about his shoulder but I actually wonder if he has been playing through some things. There have been multiple moments where he's had to leave the game and I remember one where his arm was hanging. There's definitely been some fall off from his early season defending where he was basically making opposing point guards quit.

I think you also have to factor in that he's home. Does he want to bounce to a 3rd school for his Sr year? His stats are pretty decent, it's just his shooting numbers that are terrible. Fix the shooting and he looks pretty dang good. Given his FT% is almost the same as it was at Arizona, shows he can still shoot the ball.

In fact, if Kylan was shooting his average from Arizona, he'd jump up to 13 ppg. A guy who plays strong defense and gets you 13 ppg, 5 rpg, and 3 apg is a pretty nice asset. I'd personally like to see Kylan actually play PG. With KJ gone, that could be part of the sell to stay.

To be a broken record, in my view it's the offense. FT% shows Boswell can still shoot, We need to get him better looks in the flow of the offense. I think the team needs a guest speaker to inform them, step back 3s are a tough shot. Let's maybe not make that a staple of the offense.

Are you in contact with them and they're telling you this?

I still think Boswell is a pretty good shooter. Unfortunately, instead of the offense getting him 22’ three point attempts, he’s been launching from 25’ +. He has hit some bombs earlier this year. Get him some good looks and he will produce.

#492
If you promise that the 3 of them get all the minutes at the 4 and 5, it could easily work. Thats 26 minutes a game for each on average. That is assuming big Z can stretch and play the 4 on offense similar to Tomi
Don’t think offense would be the issue. Actually his 3-pt % is higher than Tomi’s.

#493
Depends on whether the new guy is better or not. 😁

That’s really been the issue this year. Ben and Tre for the most part have not been better than Goode and Ty. That is assuming, of course, that the former two players were main reasons the roles for the latter two weren’t appealing to them and led to them leaving/RShirting. No idea if that is true. BU and staff can’t have those types of misses going forward.

#494
No, I'm not. I'm making an assumption that any player who's not developing like he wants (I'm assuming this is Boswell) asks, even if but for a moment, whether the coach he has is the right one for him.

Kylan. Sigh. God I wanted that portal recruitment to be great. Hand-eye, explosiveness, shot-making -- all three just a small but important amount too low. Darn.

#499
Really? They know they need change. No $!!t.

Do they understand what needs to change. Every hint i get from you about their way of thinking makes me believe they just aren't getting it.

Now? When did it become obvious to them? Only after the worst loss in program history? Honestly, I'm not convinced they even get it now with the Beckman-like "what ifs" after the game.
That is my concern as well. You get taken to the woodshed for the third straight game, I do not think we need to hear if you made a few more 3's, the game would be competitive going into the half. It is not as if tonight's 3 point shooting was an anomaly, which would make the statement more reasonable.

It almost feels as though Brad is at a loss, and that is concerning to me. I hope he can turn it around this offseason, but performances like the last 3 games are sure to get the notice of donors.
