I would argue Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway have similar fire that Brad would really like. Does not mean they would be a fit if they were interested/eligible but those dudes definitely care.

Galloway was out at the poker table at 3 AM before a game … Not what I’m looking for …

Leal cares … But he’s a Bloomington kid, he’d never come here … Plus - he’s out of eligibility … And I don’t think he’s good enough to play here …

What does he do better than Morez ?

Also see post 115 and add $1 million …

I struggle with kids who don’t have the fire … Outside of Goode, not a single kid on that IU team had the fire IMO …
I agree 100% and blame lack of fire on the fact that right now, at least our team, is like an extension of an AAU team. Players playing for the next level and not for the university. I cannot stand Iowa but really appreciate what I saw at the end of the Iowa game when Payton Sandfort's heart broke as he walked down the line hugging every coach and player. The kid bled for his university. He cared. Last saw that with Trent, Demonte, Ayo and company.

Unfortunately, unless Brad can figure out how to keep players and create continuity, I fear we won't see that level of care fector.

Frazier, Damonte, Ayo, Kofi, KJ, Giorgi and Feliz all played complete successful careers for Brad Underwood, and of course we're in the portal/NIL era, but if DGL leaves it will continue to be a strange but true fact that technically no high school player has committed to him and completed their eligibility at Illinois.

Kinda just the name of the game now. I don’t like it, but frankly there’s essentially not a single player I would want back that transferred out.

Some obvious exceptions like Coleman but we weren’t gonna pay him what he got. Miller seemed massive, but injuries derailed him. Everyone else either played a minor role on their new team or transferred down a level.

No love lost for anyone

I can see that going both ways.

Counting on Morez and Tommy staying

As far as depth pieces, are we looking at Jake Davis and Jason Jakstys as coming back?

Up in the air are DGL and Ben (with eligibility and role decisions to be made).

Probably gone are Ty Rodgers and Cary Booth

KJ and Will to the NBA ...

That would mean the two committed recruits and five to seven portal/recruit guys to fill up a fifteen-man roster—two studs and three to five role/development players.
I’d bet on Davis being back for another year. Even if we recruit over him with a 3/4.

Jakstys is probably a year or two away from making a meaningful contribution (but I probably typed the same thing about Jake last summer).

IMO has more to do with Underwood leadership than NIL. Sure NIL contributed to some departures and for the most part, the staff upgraded talent but missed out on heart and EDGs. I would say sad but true over strange but true.

Agree with @thefalcon5 that only a couple players I would preferred that they continue with the team. Dain (huge staff miss on another big) and Goode (this years version is exactly what this team needed).

Creighton is going to be tough to beat, but we have a shot.
Would you consider Dix an athletic wing and if you take him, does that push Tre out? Interested how you see those pieces fitting along with Sarr.

Edit: Dix shot 42% from 3 this year with nearly 5 attempts per game. Wow! He does seem like a dawg.
