The same people that are acting like losing Morez and Tre aren't a big deal, will be the same posters next season when things aren't going well that will be like "well, we have a lot of new pieces, give Underwood some time to help them gel"..

HE HAD THE CHANCE TO HAVE 4-5 meaningful returnees and he FAILED

We didn't have to be a new team of mercenaries again. My goodness it doesn't HAVE to be this way.

If we are having these conversations next year with the same coaching staff, there will be an additional conversation being had about JW. He needs to require staff upgrades this year, and a refocus on the FamILLy motto for men's bball. Watch his speech to the women's team after their last loss. Are those just empty words? I would hope not.

can you provide any detail on the whole Tyler situation? Is it "just" the nepotism thing? One of the insiders commented on the relationship between him and Tre specifically and then more broadly that he wasn't well liked. Is it his refusal to allow people to take shots in the 5-18' 2 point range? Personality? I understand if you can't share anything but appreciate if you can help fill us in at all if possible.

I’ve seen this floating around and curious to know more. If there are issues with Tyler and his relationships, then Josh needs to step in and force the changes.

I’d assume there are end of year conversations with players for Josh to have a good pulse on what is going on.
I would love to hear what the rumors are.

My friend Ben Humrichous is not a Big Ten caliber basketball player. He can’t help Illinois. Ben is not worth 500 dollars of NIL. The only reason Ben is on Illinois or in the Big Ten period is because of Brad Underwood. Illinois needs to move on from the Ben Humrichous experiment.

Expecting two more transfers out, three at most. Kylan and Tomi are locked in for sure, as is Jason, I am leaning Ty staying over Tre right now as well. Still think 1/2 of Jake/Ben is back.

And you see our highly rated offense as the source of these issues, and not the poorly rated defense?
Yes defense is an issue but the 5 out offense jacking up 3s when you’re not a good 3 point shooting team is also an issue. I don’t care about stats. To quote Bill Parcells You are what your record says you are. Illinois record last season is 7th in the Big Ten conference. Out the first weekend of the NCAA tournament

1. Boswell
2. Conwell
3. Dix
4. Sarr
5. Tomi

6. Ty
7. Humer
8. Jake Davis

This fits what Underwood / Tyler want and believe from an offensive perspective. It makes sense with shooting and positional size. Which Underwood constantly says. I don’t hate it at all. Defense is a worry but we will see.
This team doesn’t make the NCAA tournament and is in 2nd half of BT. We would get destroyed in the paint.

Agreed, but he has a top 3 offense last year.

This year, top 15... but could've been better if we shot less 3s

The solution is to fire him?

Let me put in a sentence- Underwood doesn't build the type of culture and rapport with players that inclines them to want to keep playing for him... There is such a massive difference in the culture of our football and women's basketball program than in our men's basketball program- and it's a big time problem.

But please, do add your own version of what you think the them is (I'd love to hear it)

Brad has always had a very "take it or leave it" type if attitude when it comes to his decisions or direction of the team. It seems that mindset is coming back to bite him in an era where players and coaches have more freedom of movement than ever.

90% of the fanbase knew in real time not playing Morez and Tre was a terrible decision.

I know this is the new college landscape of guys coming and going, but on its face Brad seems to be failing at retention of priority players.
To be honest I agreed with Morez needing more minutes. Tre however couldn't stay in front of his man and fell asleep a lot on defense which hurt us a lot. KJ should've gotten sat down way more than he did in my opinion for sure in the latter part of the season with all of the sloppy play and turnovers.
