Podz did not need to go to a Mid-major to play. He could have played anywhere. Brad totally blew it by not playing him a lot for Illinois. He was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft and is a good player now for Golden State. Total whiff by Brad on him.
Podz wasn’t very good his freshman year here. I think not playing lit a major fire under him and he improved his game a lot after he transferred. Do you think he should have been the primary option over Trent Frazier that year? I don’t.

We also won a regular season big ten championship that year. Tough to say Brad “whiffed” that year..

Please correct me if this scuttlebutt is incorrect, but I've heard that this past year for Booth was legitimately a development year and he knew this to be the case going on, which is also a reason he never really even got in the game in garbage time. Saved his redshirt?

That could be complete nonsense, but the theory doesn't seem like it's THAT far out of the realm of possibility??? I mean, he didn't play at all. What would his transfer options be?
We're under no obligation to keep anybody around are we...whether they want to go to the portal or not?

Kind of a weird thing to walk back if you're planning on entering the portal.

Unless its a money thing and he's waiting for a last nil payment to hit or something.

Seems like he's been checked out all year so would be a weird returnee.
Call me crazy, but I don't think it is out of line that Carey fills the Ben role in a limited fashion if he wants to stay. I will give Ben credit where it is due, he is active, a willing rebounder, and keeps balls alive. Is Carey a willing rebounder and does he have a motor, I don't know, but I do think Carey has a pretty clean stroke from 3. These two are of similar build. I haven't seen enough of CB, but I do think he is probably a little but more of a fluid athlete.

Booth played in 21 games this season. No redshirt

Stop. Nobody batted an eye when he left. There weren't a ton of high majors chasing after him, so clearly he wasn't highly coveted, which means 99% of college coaches whiffed on him. He got into the right situation for him and he flourished in it. End of story. The revisionist history is ridiculous.

Yes, you are crazy and out of line. If Booth is back, we have major problems.

The irony is so rich on this one that I can’t stop smiling. Podz was told that he had to improve his defense if he wanted to see the floor. Fast forward to the Hamer years and….well, our defense sucks so bad that people talk about it in a bad way. Oh how the mighty have fallen! Podz could start now based purely on that logic.

He told us why. He wanted to go to a team where he would be featured, not where the coach would tell him to stand in the corner.

He is the guy in the NBA, he knew better than the guys who think should have gone to a major.

I think that a scholarship has to be renewed, so I don't think we have to keep a guy that we don't want. That said, some kids are actually using the scholarship to pursue the education. Luke Goode got a heck of a degree for free. It wouldn't be a great precedent to set to be non-renewing scholarships.

Brad wiffed. He wouldn't give Podz the ball when Trent had pinkeye and his shoulder in a sling. He had DFW and Hawkins trying to run point.

Grow up Brad sycophants. He missed!

Then why didn't he go play at any other rhigh major?
I assume none of the big boys were interested. Santa Clara has a good coach in Herb Sendek and he spotted something in Podz that Brad totally missed. I think Wiscy passed on him coming out of high school as well. Interesting that Podz is similar to Jakucionis and Brad totally blew Podz off in his one year at Illinois.
