This guy committed to Oregon State last portal season before reversing course and going to Minny. Was injured for all (most?) of season with a foot injury I think. If I recall correctly, from a MAC school (Toledo maybe) and was quite the stats stuffer. I was looking forward to seeing him in Beavers’ uniform because his stats seemed to indicate he’s got some Dog in him.
Would be an interesting option imo. Wouldn't necessarily want to count on him but I think you could pencil him in as a 9th/10th guy with the potential to work his way into a Harmon type role.

Chicago area kid from Bolingbrook and started at Northern. Was also a the mac defensive player of the year. Will also be in his seventh year of college basketball(COVID year, and two medical redshirts) so he would be a very experienced addition to the locker room.

WCC isn’t exactly brimming with centers, but point taken. I will say I “saw” him play against Oregon Stare, but he didn’t leave an impression good or bad. Certainly doesn’t look like a bad pick up for the role he’d play here.
I watched Santa Clara play a few times and was impressed. He is skilled, pretty fluid, and can put the ball on the floor pretty well for a 7 footer.

Honestly, there is a bit of Danny Wolf at Yale to his game wouldn't be surprised if Michigan is very interested.

Don't want to alarm anyone, but Illinois does need to pony up for Morez Johnson. I'm pretty sure they will, but it's not the slam dunk that some think it is.

Reports on X of him hitting the portal are bogus, though.

Some are saying that Morez's issue is that he wants guarantees of an expanded role. i.e. more of a face up game, 3-point shooter, etc. so he can develop for the NBA. That's mostly BS.

MJ was shamefully underutilized, especially in the early and middle part of the season, as BH was getting 30 minutes a game to lay bricks. MJ didn’t come here to ride the pines behind a slow mid major player. I believe it will take some serious schmoozing and $ to get MJ back. For Brad to favor a “shooter” who couldn’t shoot and was only going to be here for one year over a potential multi year star bordered on criminal.
Tyler loved guys who could space the floor and average 3ppg

what do you mean by "that's mostly BS"? It's BS for him to want those guarantees or it's BS of his camp / him to demand those?

That dude isn't coming to be a third big.
Zvonimir seems like the ideal third big. His brother is here and he's been coming off the bench and getting sporadic minutes at Arkansas.

Hes a fluid 7 footer that is one of the better shot blockers in the country, and can shoot to space the floor with Morez on the court.

Cooper Schwieger would be my backup plan but I think he could also start at a lot of schools.

The best thing about Morez is that he just knows who he is, and there isn't a problem with that. A team guy that gives 110% at all times. He could easily average a double-double with more minutes just from being around the basket when a shot goes up.

I think he could unlock way more to his game but how badly do we need him out on the perimeter when he can make a killing inside the paint?

It's mostly BS that the primary issue is his role. Has it been mentioned? Sure. "Other teams are telling me I can step out and shoot 3's and get ready for the NBA".

But it's mostly about the $$. And I think the Tim Anderson situation still lingers some too.

I do kind of question how he fits or if he’d be ok with only flirting with 25 mins a game.

That being said he’d be a great addition. I’d still like to see a bouncy 4 addition as well.

If Illini are recruiting him as a 9/10th guy, I really doubt we see him in an Illinois uniform. Maybe the draw of playing at home is a big enough draw, but I’d guess he’s looking for at least rotation minutes similar to what DGL got over course of this season. And knowing DGL’s limitations, I’d take Cochran over him for those types of minutes.

ole pru will be back here guarding the aft flanks.......................I really really REALLY WILL.....................
I not sure how to respond to this post on the crootin thread Pru.....

Let's go with this.

BU had a team this year that was soft. REALLY SOFT! We need to bring in at least (2) perky, team players. If they play together, results would be really, really elite!!

Keep it up Pru!!

Not that it matters but big Z won't make Morez very happy if he shows up.

Just curious about the progress of Jason Jakstys. If we are looking for a backup big perhaps he can fill some of that role? Reality is we aren’t going to get someone of high caliber to come in as a reserve. He seems like a smart kid and has had a year of development. Maybe this is the year he turns from a forgotten man to JJ on this board?

If Kylan plays like he did the last month or like in the tourney where he played unreal during 14-22 & 5-9 from 3, on D and Thorton already is All Big 10 then they would certainly be amoung them. I'd love them as our backcourt.
Am I the only one that gets tired of KB trailing quicker guards down the lane? He's touted as being a great defender, but his failings expose our bigs to more fouls or easy buckets when they come to help on his man. He can't shoot 3's. Me thinks we need to pick up 2 stud guards in the portal.

I get what you’re saying, but a lot of that is our defensive scheme and not hedging the pick and roll (where this happens).

Those are great things (whether it's BS or not). Underwood wants every guy on the floor to be a threat from 3-point range. He can still get a ton of rebounds and dunks. They are not mutually exclusive options.

It is called a "rear view contest" and is done by design. Is particularly effective against PnR when the opposing ballhandler is a shooter (which ends up being most of them) and you have to chase through the screen, rather than slip under giving them space.

I think it has been insinuated that it is the opposite. Rez would rather play the 4 and develop as something more than how he has been utilized to date. Big Z would spell Tomi. I still question:
1.) Whether Rez can play the 4 (on offense)
2.) Are we going to cough up the very large sum it would take to get Big Z away from Arkansas?
