No way to spin this as anything other than a massive failure on Underwood's part. Just beyond believable that they messed up that relationship enough that we are losing Morez. He was arguably the most important piece coming back next year. Every time I want to believe in Underwood's ability to truly take our program where it belongs- bs like this happens. Why is Underwood incapable of building the same types of relationships with his staff and players like Bret and Shauna do? Something is off about the culture he is developing and it's getting really old.

Portal is a microcosm of the sporting world these days, and frankly has diminished the attachment fans have to their respective teams.
To be fair, all pro sports fans have been on the opposite side of that coin, stuck with a long-term commitment to a player who isn't good. Jason Heyward springs to mind. There's a yin and a yang to it.

But for college basketball specifically they have just nuked the raison d'être of the sport from orbit. There's nothing left.

This is what happens when you play Ben Humrichous over a talent that is going to be All-Conference Floor/All-American ceiling good by the time his college career is over.

This is avoided if he plays as much as he deserved from Day 1, not halfway thru the year.

In this day and age, it's all about managing the egos of players, and FAR more importantly, their respective inner circles.

Hate to be blunt, but this was 100% avoidable. And our staff continues to fumble these situations. Mind-boggling and beyond frustrating.
I was about to write the first sentence before DB beat me to it.

Plus, the annual turnover of both staff and players is NOT good for this program.

I stated a fact. The same fact is why players would be less inclined to believe what he says.

Ohhhh and how he started Ben over Morez? You think Morez wasnt promised a starting role?

So we’ve got to be done recruiting high school kids at this point right? Unless they are a one and done type talent, there’s no point.

Give me proven college players like Domask, TSJ, Plummer and Quincy Guerrier and some international talents over age 20 and let’s go to work. Get old and stay old forever.

If I have to watch Morez on another Big Ten team I'm going to vomit. If we're going to feature Tomi in the center I hope he bulks up (yes I know he lost a bunch of weight with the illnesses). This sucks, Morez was an absolute dawg.

Going to ask a stupid question here and obviously there are in-season decisions that could have been made where there would perhaps be a different outcome...

But why aren't their widely adopted multi-year contract structures in place to mitigate these kinds of situations? Is it uncertainty of funding year over year? I suppose it's still a bit of the Wild West so you open yourself up to a lot of risk by "signing" a guy who ends up being a dud and having to keep a roster spot for him, but it at least would create some more stickiness right?

I know there are those on this board who are more knowledgeable about this, maybe the answer is because it's still essentially it's still early in this age and the NCAA is dragging there feet to do anything material at this point but I'm curious what the hang up is for some kind of real action to create stickiness.
