Isn’t the issue that there is no minor leagues like baseball..NCAA athletics has become a joke, actually it has always been a joke. I'm all for paying NIL but there has to limits on transfers and some sort of salary cap (if possible). There is no accountability or loyalty, from players to coaches, to a program/university. They are all mercenaries who will go to the highest bidder. If this is not fixed it will be the downfall of college athletics.
With that being said.........I like Brad but how is it that guys like Izzo and Painter can keep their programs in tact and Brad's falls apart every off season. Then he builds it back up to only fall apart again. This is not sustainable......there is no Every Day Guys......that's a joke.
I believe it. BU seems to have turned offense and defense to two grad assistant types. Emulating the 4 out, shoot a ton of 3 offense making the NBA unwatchable. They gave a long leash to some players abd others were pulled for mistakes or missed shots.“I don’t want to end up like Kofi… or Dain” - Morez
I don't think you are correct about this, although maybe I am the one who is wrong. This is gonna sound like blasphemy against the prevailing narrative against Ben on this board.
Here's the uncomfortable fact: Brad didn't take minutes from Ben and give it to Morez because Morez just wasn't good enough.
Sure Morez is more athletic, a much better rebounder and overall has a higher ceiling than Ben.
And yes Ben has a lot of limitations and underperformed his expectation, especially shooting wise.
But people seem to have a revisionist view regarding how good Morez's defense was vs. Ben's. The fact is, despite all his flaws Ben was actually less lost on defense than Morez was and was just less foul prone (hence was able to be a body on the floor for longer), for a bug chunk of the season.
They give their guys some sort of personality test. Then they recruit kids that score high for commitment and loyalty. Something like that.
Do you think Kofi or Edey who were all Americans strictly from their work in the paint are a bad model to follow for development? Yes , Morez isn’t the same as either of those guys, but for him to say “he doesn’t want to end up like Kofi” rubs me the wrong way when in reality, he likely won’t end up even 50% of the player Kofi was.I think Morez is more than a rim runner and rebounder too, along the lines that I've posted here repeatedly (jump hooks, elbow jumpers). So do others. If he left because he felt the plan for his development in CU was inadequate, I am going to be even more disappointed in our coaching staff.
Talk about revisionist history….try your math again.I mean if you look at Ben until January, there was no reason for Morez to play over him? Revisionist history is crazy here. The turning point was the MSU game and after that Morez got nearly 25 mpg average
Some pretty good coaches who seem to produce (in most years) year after year. Most of the programs remaining have coaches and programs that I believe most of the top athletes would rather play for than BU.In this they can. There are teams still playing right now that shows that you can.
How many fouls/minute did Rez accumulate. I recall a lot of games where he spent many minutes on the bench due to foul trouble. For the season though, Ben, for some reason averaged 27 mpg, while Rez averaged 17.
Zero shock Rez is in the Portal
I get what you're saying but if people are gonna pine for the good ole days of freshmen sticking with the process that includes the expectation of spending the first year developing more than playing.I don't think you are correct about this, although maybe I am the one who is wrong.
But here goes with PART of my argument: Morez is a an asset. He had future value. Ben had little value this year or in future.
We won a championship 12 months ago lol.One hesitates to ask, but: what kind of nuts? Peanuts, cashews or walnuts?
After that snarky note, how about this: we need to win a lot more games. Underwood is struggling to reach the level he repeatedly says he wants to reach: championships. Freshman, seniors, whatever. Just win. That might take more than a season, I think.
23.375 mpg after MSU in January. Would say that’s quite close to 25. The only reason it wasn’t higher is his own foul trouble. 4 fouls in 3 of those gamesTalk about revisionist history….try your math again.
Not even close to averaging 25 mpg
Well, Will Riley averaged 26 mpg - 1 minute less than Tomi, good for 5th most on the team.Spot on! Just think how much better we would have been if Morez and Will were getting starter type minutes or equivalent minutes to the starters.
If he's offered 1.8M(reportedly) and wants to play more on the perimeter......see ya. He was the ONLY player that thrived in the paint for us. We need him to be that guy and not the guy who wants to face up for 18-20 feet. That was our issue last year. What Morez wants and what we need are two different things and that's ok. Morez, hope you aren't being lied to and Brad.....go get a big that wants to play defense, be nasty and block shots.he will make twice what we were going to give him in the portal for a team that will play him what he deserves from Day 1
We need more drama.Thought he was a bad locker room guy?
Someone should tell Morez Paul Silas made a career playing defense, grabbing rebounds, especially offensive rebonds, and shooting nothing but close in shots and put backs.According to Morez himself, he is leaving because he is “more than a rim runner and rebounder and wants to get more than just that” he also said he didn’t want to end up like Kofi. Essentially sounds like he think of himself much higher than anyone else does
