That’s kind of a huge aside, though. He just couldn’t stay on the court for any meaningful stretch of time.
Him and every other freshman big ever, which always improves with age. Doesn’t take away from the player he will be long term or the massive upside he flashed this year, which as I’ve said, is all-conference floor good.

If we need anything to feel better about, the Big East POTY entering the portal due to ā€˜coaching decisions and fanbase support’ may help. Imagine this board if that happened here.
Honestly I think Pitino was right to bench him and it's a good thing for a culture to show that nobody is above it.

Brad hasnt shown that type of consistency while dealing with guys and certain guys do seem to get longer leashes.

Right… and most freshmen big take an entire season or more to adjust to the college game. I don’t know what he’s complaining about. He got a lot of minutes — much more than any reasonable freshman big could expect. He showed flashes of brilliance, was a monster on rebounds and couldn’t stay out of foul trouble to save his life. His minutes grew as the season went on until he broke his wrist. If he would’ve started from the beginning we would’ve rolled out three freshmen (including Ivisic) with another one coming off the bench for major minutes. In hindsight, this was a fantastic season when considering those parameters.

That’s not the argument. We all know he can be good.

Don't be gone for long bud...would you come back if we let you shoot 3's...? Dan can we get him a bigger bag...?
I get the feeling illini0440 feels he can't let his career end up like Kofi's. Hope he comes back though.

Do you remember what Meyers looked like as a freshman?

Brads ego made him opt for a 22 year old NAIA shooter who couldn't shoot over a fringe 5 star Chicago kid who wanted to play here his whole life. Its mind numbing.

Morez is going to be so so good and it makes me sick it really does.

Brad did exactly that same thing with Curbelo… benching him in the second half of an NCAA tournament game. Did you watch enough St John’s basketball this year to know how long or short Luis’ leash actually was?

Exactly. This team will be forgotten in 2 years. Most loyal fans can name players from teams going back to when they were teenagers. I won’t care to remember any of these teams one bit.
Bro hailtotheorange ...

Exactly
Who was that guy that drank six Monsters?

Coach BU and his JUCO coaching experience gets into this portal player turnover.

My take, to make the Big Dance at the Elite 8 level and up, a D1 Power 5 bball team needs older experienced college players that hit 3s, play D, minimal TOs package include a couple of Bigs with an athletic #3 or #4 player. Not to forget two or three good bench roll players.
A tall order for a year to year consistent roster mix.
Likely a booster boat load of NIL $$$$ will help too.

I’m anxious to see how other programs hold up. I know everyone is talking about Painter & Izzo being able to keep everyone, but the money is getting much crazier this offseason. Will they still have the same retention success? Time will tell. MSU is still playing and Purdue was until around midnight last night. Hard to gauge right now, but Braden Smith & TKR are likely asking for a BIG raise. They’ll get it one way or another.
Let’s see how the ā€œprogram buildersā€ hold up with the pot seeming to have more than doubled, over night.

Whether you like or dislike Pitino or think he is a scumbag, the guy can really coach and has discipline from his players (even if it is only on the court).

I can assure you Ben playing over Morez played a significant role in all this.

Wasn’t ready for a huge role his Freshman year…ayfkm? Did you see his per 40 #s? Every time out there, foul trouble aside, he was one of the most impactful players on the court. Anyone who suggests otherwise is lacking ā€œball knowledgeā€.
So his freshman year didn't go 100% perfectly to plan according to him and his dad's eyes? Just screw it I'm gone no discussion whatsoever about the future? Seems a bit over the top to me on their part if $$$ wasn't the issue. JMO

But he’s literally made it work. He’s had highly successful offenses, regardless of how he got there. He may or may not have earned the initial hire, but he’s clearly proven his value since.
Well then he needs to take a class on people skills it sounds like, more to coaching than just X's and O's.

Or, perhaps the players can’t take coaching, whether it be from the head man or someone closer to their age. Some might call those players soft.
