It’s so interesting how past college players all say things like “even though it was tough, I’m glad I stuck around and it was worth it”. Not just here. Everywhere. What you don’t see is a lot of “oh man I wish I played now so I could have transferred year and chased whatever NIL I could get.” Those guys have a home for life where they spent their entire college careers. You just wonder if the guys these days are being short-sighted.

But man I had fun while I was raving. Reading the threads since Friday was not dancing with beautiful humans and living in psychedelic dreams. At least I could think back fondly with no regret.
And our insiders are being DMd? For real? Those that DM with less than graceful intent, are too ashamed to post their thoughts publicly for board scrutiny because deep down they it's !!!!!!.
This is our board, we should protect our own. Therefore. @illini0440 and @Littyville1 (hope i got the handles correct), share the DMs on the board and let the virtual stoning begin. I know most of the negativity comes from deep Illini love, I get it, but there is a line.
Stay positive yall. We will be alright.

I like your post. However, the negativity comes from being an immature moron. Those individuals are pathetic. Without the insiders, there is really limited value to this message board.

People are buying into various forms of confirmation bias that they've lost perspective. For example, imagine explaining to, say, a Oklahoma fan, that Illinois fans are losing their minds because Brad Underwood has his son on staff, he's in charge of the offense, and it's been a really poor experience. That Oklahoma fan could look up when Tyler Underwood started (summer 2023) and see that Illinois' offensive has been ranked on KenPom as the 3rd and 14th best offensive efficiency units in back-to-back years. Now, I'm sure folks around here would have specific situations or nuance they would want to interject to provide a different perspective to that performance, but an Oklahoma fan (or say, an Iowa football fan wink wink) would KILL to have a nepotism problem like that.

I'm content to read comings-and-goings on this board for Illini basketball, and they absolutely deserve to speak their mind like all of us, but I do think a good chunk of you are taking too many big emotional swings based on "insider" perspectives shared on here. Being the head basketball coach at Illinois means lots of political difficulties from trying to balance the priorities of many competing parties. These political challenges have always existed, it's just some of you are getting exposed to them in a way that you were not before.

There are obviously politics and agendas at play with the team and staff, and some disagreement with the head coach and his decisions, which includes our insiders who air their feelings about it on the board. It shouldn't be treated as gospel, or impartial.

As far as transfers, if I were advising college players who had no clear future in the NBA, and given the current state of college b-ball and the market for players, I would tell them they have 4 years to maximize their income, and the best way to do it is to transfer, every year (as long as you're smart about the situation you're transferring into). As a fan I hate it, but they may never get a chance to make this kind of money. Can you imagine graduating at 23 with a couple mil in your bank account? It's transformative.
