It always hurts to lose top talent. But instead of thinking about guys who want and decide to leave -- it's more important for The Illini to re-double efforts to be the kind of program that elite talent wants to come to -- and STAY AROUND.

You can't control what someone else will do. But the Illini Program can work to do everything and more to be THE PLACE to come to maximize your talents and get noticed and have a great team and fan experience. That is what the Illini can control.

What can you do about it? They wanted him to stay and we're going to pay him, but he wanted to be able to shoot threes and 15 foot jump shots and be played through. They had a different Outlook for him, so they mutually parted ways.
So your Word is that we really tried to Excel. You make a PowerPoint but I still think it was all about Access to $$$.

The irony of it all is their fan base isn't even that excited about Morez coming. They're positive about it but only see him as a defense and toughness guy. Wonder where they would get that from.

He will recruit them in year 2, 3, or 4 in the transfer portal when they realize they made a mistake going to some school that promised them the world.

I was going to post something like this anyway....recent news accelerated the process

Questions About Recruiting And The Portal The Coaching Staff Needs To Answer

1. Have Illinois been recruiting players, especially freshmen, that are prone to transfer?
2. How much our problems is an us problem or ell of college hoops problem?
3. The football team is much better at retaining talent. Can the basketball team do the same? Is it even possible in modern NCAA basketball?
4. Should the focus on recruiting be on Euros?
5. Should the Illini even recruit freshmen at all?

I like that Carey went to Colorado State. Dropping down to non P4 conference should get him more playing time. He needs time to get stronger, develop some offensive moves, improve his defense and learn to rebound.

Loved Morez when he was here, always wanted him to get more PT. Michigan? Little snide comments as leaves? I hope he crashes and burns and never sniffs the NBA. I normally wish ex-Illini success, but his behavior has exposed his character. I am so disappointed and let down by his actions. I suppose I shouldn't expect much more in todays world.

So everyone who !!!! on the program for this guy only for him to go Michigan seem particularly quiet right now. He didn’t just go bag chasing he went to one of the worst possible teams he could have gone to. Hoping for a 1xx-5x finish next year in our games with them

Where does this fiasco leave BU with Meanstreets? They have a lot of talent in the pipeline.
Not sure to what extent we've made progress (I remember there were talks that we haven't because Hamer was recruiting in-state), but lots to look into there in 2027... especially Davion Thompson (5 star).
