I think the Ivisic twins make all the difference here. It wasn’t that teams didn’t need to guard Ty, but rather that they could guard Ty with their 5 man and we didn’t have a way to punish them for it with a mismatch elsewhere.
Coleman and Guerrier were both about 6’8 or 6’9 and neither had any kind of post game to really speak of. So teams could put bigger wings on them and get away with it.
But a big wing won’t cut it against legit 7 footers. And the fact that they can both shoot means the lane can be open for Ty, either from the dunker sport or cuts, rolls and drives.
If you put your 5 man on Ty, that means you will have a wing on an Ivisic. Good luck with that. But if you guard Ty with a wing, with the paint open, that is very likely to be a favorable matchup for Ty.
