With due respect, I don't think he believes any such thing. His basketball IQ is plenty high to understand that playing the 4 requires a face-up/perimeter game.

Well, fourth on the team in Defensive Win Shares when that's a volume stat and he had the second most minutes on the team kind of tells the same story.

I'm fairly skeptical of defensive analytics in basketball to be honest (good points on it above), I take it with a grain of salt.

It comes back to resources and opportunity cost. Seems fair to assume that Georgetown, Cincinnati and Providence are offering him bigger roles and not insignificant money. If we outbid that, that's a serious allocation on our part. I would really want to know what if any cost savings would come from retaining DGL instead.

Also, just noticed our old pal Omar Payne was on that team.
While we all agree on a healthy skepticism for defensive analytics, since you brought it up DGL's defensive analytics are just as bad, if not worse, than Sellers', and I've watched enough of him to say that in this instance the eye test backs that up. He is a bad defender. Probably the worst we had this season. And more importantly DGL is clearly not happy with the role he played on the team this past season, and the role he would play going forward, to the point where it severely impacted his value at the end of last season. If that was a preview of things to come I think this is an instance where a parting of ways is best for everyone involved.

In diving into DGL's stats this morning I found something kinda maybe interesting. In games he played 20+ minutes, we went 6-6. In games he played less than 10 minutes we went 5-5. In games where he played beween 10 and 19 minutes we went 11-2 (and a perfect 8-0 in games where he played 10-15 minutes). I don't know if this means anything really, but to me it kind of encapsulates in a way what DGL's role should be on this team. The thing is, I don't think he was ever happy with that role.

The impact of the Ty news is bigger than what he brings to the court - which IMO is a glue guy vs a legit difference maker but a winner nonetheless.

Here's a guy (he said regrettably, repulsed by his use of the Cris Collinsworthism) who had every reason to leave - recruited over after starting for an elite 8 team, seemingly not a fit for how we're trying to play, he had to go through all the same practices, listen to all the same yelling, go through the same low points of the season without enjoying the spoils of actually playing in the games. He would've been forgiven for moving on.

But he stayed.

He'll be the second Brad Underwood recruit to stay with the program for 4 years. And by bringing him back, Brad is establishing more continuity and leadership in a year when we were staring at another rebuild/reload...preserving some of the EDG culture that seemed forgotten this year.

A little bit of faith has been restored in our staff's ability to retain guys.

Loyalty, some version of it, does still exist.

I think it’s the opposite. We are going to be pumped and SFC will be electric
Then we'll get to read "Congrats on winning your super bowl!!!" tweets from Michigan fans.

Pretty sure I saw those from Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan, UCLA (LOLOL), and Iowa fans this past year. Too funny.

Morez leaving feels completely personal now. It wasn't about the money. He's going to feel it when we play Michigan next year. This was a youngster mistake, and seems to have gotten extremely poor advice from a parent. Ty Rodgers and the Ivisic twins will overtake him in that game next season. Lesson time.....

We were in on Quaintance when he was in HS, right? Assuming the asking price starts at around 2M….
I assume Indy is just posting that he's entering the portal - his asking price is likely well above $2M, he's a top 5 pick in the 2026 Draft most likely. His ACL surgery he just had might lower his interest a little bit, but he's supposed to be back by September so he would be available at the start of next season

He'd be the best defender and shot blocker on the team instantly (he has a 7-3 wingspan) and a great fit at the 4, but more like a better Morez, given he doesn't stretch the floor at all, but with the Ivisic twins I don't think we care about that. He's be a great fit in my mind if it's at all possible, but the limitless dollars of other programs probably win this one
