Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

I like looking at players in the portal that just finished their sophomore year in college. Ther's a chance that Illinois could have them on the team for the next 2 years. That would hopefully provide a bit of roster continuity moving forward. I will give some examples.

6'3" 195-pound Combo Guard Josh Pascarelli of Marist. He averaged 15.9/3.6/2.3 while shooting 44.8/39.3/76.8 this past season. He could back up Boswell at PG or play alongside him at SG.

6'6" 215-pound Small Forward (or SG) Kennard Davis of SIU-Carbondale. He averaged 16.3/4.9/2.6 while shooting 45.5/37.6/76.3 last season for the Salukis. He's from St. Louis, MO, so he would be playing close to home in Champaign. This kid would not be a Plan C for the Illini. Iowa State, Purdue, and other schools are reaching out to Davis. He's strong, versatile (can play multiple positions), and he's tough playing inside or outside on offense. This is the type of player, imho, that the Illini should be recruiting.

6'6" 200-pound G Sam Lewis of Toledo. He averaged 16.2/4.7/1.2 while shooting 47.0/44.4/76.6 this past season. He's from Chicago and he played HS ball for Simeon. That's a VG ppg scoring average, and he shot 44.4% on 3-pointers. Like someone said in an earlier post, he's probably not a starter for the Illini next season...but maybe he could further develop into a starter the following season. I think it would be good to get a tough Chicago kid from Simeon on our roster.

6'7" 220-pound Forward Bobby Durkin of Davidson. He averaged 13.5/5.9/2.4 while shooting 40.6/35/6/85.0 this past season. He's from Darien (a Chicago suburb). He could probably play some SF for the Illini off the bench, or probably some small-ball PF. He'd be a native Illinoisan providing depth at his home-state university

6'9" 215-pound PF Alvaro Folgueiras of Robert Morris. He averaged 14.1/9.1/3.2 while shooting 54.8/41.3/78.4 this past season. Born in Spain, Alvaro is a bit light for a power forward, but Fletch could help him a lot, adding good weight and strength. The kid's a baller. 41.3% on 3-pointers is elite for a 6'9" player. 3.2 assists per game shows he's a good, willing passer. And 9.1 rebounds? Who averaged that many for the Illini this past season?
They all look like good players to get but more than likely they will have already signed somewhere else why we are chasing the mostly unattainable top rated transfers.

I think we have at least one commitment (not Big T) before the dead period is done. Should have more on targets in the coming days like I said earlier.
What happens if the big PF doesn’t enter the portal

I honestly like bringing Jake back. Continuity, does everything right, good culture dude, and honestly-felt he was valuable at times this season. No reason he can't be another spot minute guy next year and maybe year 3 or 4 could be a 6th man or 7th man.. I can't imagine we have to pay him much.

Boswell
Rodgers
Davis
Humrichous
Tomi

Should be good starting 5 and contenders in the conference. Great work by staff keeping our guys. Look forward to a tourney appearance and hopefully another Elite 8.

Well. Probably get a lot of flack but seem the insiders are not on it as much as we thought

He reminds me of Lucas Johnson. Not particularly athletic, but a fan favorite for playing hard, rebounding and hitting occasional 3 pointers. Jake might be a better shooter. Lucas was a little bigger.
I like Jake for your stated reasons. Who knows what he can become if he works on defensive positioning and foot speed? The latter is his shortcoming, likely will always be, but he sure seems to be at the right place at the right time more often than most.

Love me some Jake! Hoping he steps it up and gets 15-20 quality minutes each game.

I thought he was a little bit too timid last season. With permission from the coaching staff, he probably needs to look for his shot a little more and stop deferring so much.
Yes, with his quick release he can actually get shots off better than Ben.
