? Who's been misled?

I believe we're on a Board that features "open forum" opinions, analysis and speculation about our favorite sports teams.

Ragging on a kid who clearly gave 100% in games and in practice and just has physical limitations that limited him at this level is so silly.
I 100% understand what you’re saying and would have agreed with this stance a few years ago. Now these “kids” hire agents, demand 6-7 figure NIL deals and negotiate playing time before committing. This business model s a double edged sword for them and like anything that is paid for, outcomes/ROI’s are the expectation.

I don't like nor dislike AJ Storr. But when you shoot 15-20 shots per game to get your 16pts..
No thank you. Now what makes us believe he will not do what he did at Wisconsin by jacking up Jordan or Kobe shot totals. He is not them. This year each game we had 1 or 2 players throwing up tons of shot for little efficient stats. Didn't we lose 13 or 14 games. Things have got to change with our offense and defensive game plan. I hope we get some ballers that can play to the Illini way, that coach Underwood developed the past years.
This year was hard to watch and stomach. I get injuries, sickness, etc.. Coaching and Culture are huge.
I do not want Storrs in our uniform.

Storrs is in Connecticut

I watched every game. I would bet BH was 50% on those back-downs. And when he missed, the shots were typically short, hitting the front of the rim.
50%?...likely a tremor caused an extra zero while typing. My recall is that he got the shot easily, shot maybe 10 in the course of the season, and I have no memory of more than a single make at best...maybe none.

As for the veracity of my memory, I do recall the kid from PSU as well as Marcus Domask both converting 60-70% with that shot.

I see your perspective, but I do think there's a big difference between a guy like Domask or Humrichous who play out a full career where they initially committed and THEN take advantage of the new rule once, and then people who shop themselves around every year like say Tre White.

Nothing morally wrong with either really, but I do think one is a bit more respectable than the other, just on a personal level.

You would think Illinois fans would get tired of being misled about recruiting by the same people year after year.

Yes the vibes given were definitely that we had a couple of players just waiting to commit as soon as the portal opened and our season ended. Just more smoke and mirrors.🤔

I appreciate all the info shared on here. We have to realize they are sharing what they know and how the staff is feeling about different kids, but predicting what 18-22 y.o. kids are going to do is impossible. But knowing who the staff is targeting and if they think we have a shot and when we don’t have a shot is very useful and makes this site a lot more fun!

I find it useful to frame the discussion, but yeah, people kinda keep falling for the same thing over and over again.
Agree. There are certainly folks on this forum who have more informed opinions than others, But they're opinions. If we're told something is a "lock", or a special GIF is thrown out to imply something is a "done deal" just remember that it's not. Don't start planning rosters until a player says he's in...or out. My 2 cents.

I like looking at players in the portal that just finished their sophomore year in college. Ther's a chance that Illinois could have them on the team for the next 2 years. That would hopefully provide a bit of roster continuity moving forward. I will give some examples.

6'3" 195-pound Combo Guard Josh Pascarelli of Marist. He averaged 15.9/3.6/2.3 while shooting 44.8/39.3/76.8 this past season. He could back up Boswell at PG or play alongside him at SG.

6'6" 215-pound Small Forward (or SG) Kennard Davis of SIU-Carbondale. He averaged 16.3/4.9/2.6 while shooting 45.5/37.6/76.3 last season for the Salukis. He's from St. Louis, MO, so he would be playing close to home in Champaign. This kid would not be a Plan C for the Illini. Iowa State, Purdue, and other schools are reaching out to Davis. He's strong, versatile (can play multiple positions), and he's tough playing inside or outside on offense. This is the type of player, imho, that the Illini should be recruiting.

6'6" 200-pound G Sam Lewis of Toledo. He averaged 16.2/4.7/1.2 while shooting 47.0/44.4/76.6 this past season. He's from Chicago and he played HS ball for Simeon. That's a VG ppg scoring average, and he shot 44.4% on 3-pointers. Like someone said in an earlier post, he's probably not a starter for the Illini next season...but maybe he could further develop into a starter the following season. I think it would be good to get a tough Chicago kid from Simeon on our roster.

6'7" 220-pound Forward Bobby Durkin of Davidson. He averaged 13.5/5.9/2.4 while shooting 40.6/35/6/85.0 this past season. He's from Darien (a Chicago suburb). He could probably play some SF for the Illini off the bench, or probably some small-ball PF. He'd be a native Illinoisan providing depth at his home-state university

6'9" 215-pound PF Alvaro Folgueiras of Robert Morris. He averaged 14.1/9.1/3.2 while shooting 54.8/41.3/78.4 this past season. Born in Spain, Alvaro is a bit light for a power forward, but Fletch could help him a lot, adding good weight and strength. The kid's a baller. 41.3% on 3-pointers is elite for a 6'9" player. 3.2 assists per game shows he's a good, willing passer. And 9.1 rebounds? Who averaged that many for the Illini this past season?

Im about to head out on a weekend hiking trip. Should be back by Sunday afternoon. Is it safe to say I can enjoy that trip without missing anything?

Thanks in advance 😂

Is Nolan Traore looking to maybe trying college after a year that saw some struggles? If so, let's get him.

I think Sarr probably ends up in the NBA draft. If he does, didn't we look at Hugo Gonzalez last year?
I always liked that Brad Underwood was a tough coach. One who developed tough players. But overall, these past few seasons, Illinois has not been a tough, physical team. KJ, Tomi, Sarr, Traore, Gonzalez: are any of these Europeans tough, physical players? I like their ability and skills, but they might not fit the type of team that I thought Brad always wanted to have.

I could be wrong but I think FI_8905 was referring to people elsewhere online whose info you have to pay for.
