I’m wondering what happened to the “he’s been exposed” talk on here. It’s more like he’s been revealed as a guy….thats pretty damn solid.
To me, the question (after seeing the Illini trounce them in AA on March 2) was simply: he assembled a really solid team on the fly a year ago, which waned late in the season. Can he repeat that?

Answer: apparently, yes. 💰 helps, no?

There's several big names that will be hitting the portal in the next week or two.
What worries me is it seems like we're on the same path as last year, and we ended up in the middle of the pack in the conference and didn’t make it out of the first weekend. If we’re offering NIL opportunities and playing time, why aren’t players choosing Illinois?

Why was there even a question after taking FAU to the Final 4? If you can do that, you can coach. Not to mention picking up whatever Juwan left and turning it around immediately

With the house settlement coming on Monday, waiting on guys that enter the portal in a week or two is a very bad strategy. It’s okay to admit things are not going according to plan. Illinois needs to get some commits before then or it could mean trouble.

We had Ayo, Kofi, & Terrence Shannon. #1 offense in the country, elite 8. Big ten title and two tournament titles. Michigan was horrendous two years ago

It.is.April 5th!

April 5th!

The 2024-2025 season hasn't yet crowned its champion.

Mayhaps waiting before determining developing trends might be in order.

Yay more Euro dudes, idk why RJ would choose us over every school in the nation

Because one data point does not form a trend. I, for one, had not seen anything of him before that FF run. (Then again, I don't watch a ton of college hoops.) Was it players or coaching? I had no idea, and neither really did anyone else who watches mainly the Illini.

He turned it around immediately at Michigan because he brought Goldin with him and assembled a team having only two returners, neither of whom had any significant PT the season before. It was entirely legitimate, especially after they hit a wall in late Feb, to question him. He seemed like an excellent coach, but Michigan this past season was in the top 10% of luck in D-1. I sat in Crisler March 2nd and watched a mass exodus of the disgusted home crowd at the 10 minute mark of the second half because we were trouncing them (once again) on their Senior Day.

Go look at the MGoBlog comment boards from Feb and early March and you'll find plenty of homers who doubted him.

This fanbase sorely needs some news, and I think they are going to get some soon.
This is a very fair take. Thanks for realizing it.

As of late, we've been taking the blows. I pray to God BU and staff are setting up for a"rope-a-dope" situation here.

BU's strength is recruiting--let's see how it goes, but I completely understand the disappointment now.

Two names to keep an eye on.

There will be more to come with the second round of transfers coming.
Mirkovic shot 27% from 3 and at Basketball without Borders was one of the slowest, unathletic players at the camp. Combined with the Ivisic twins and Jake Davis, I honestly don’t see the vision at all. Seems we’re somehow getting less athletic and worse at shooting than last year. Would rather have Ben back than Mirkovic

What goes around comes around for Rez and his dad. They thought the grass was greener in Michigan and now it looks like they were double crossed. Let's face it, Michigan has been cheating, lying and pulling underhanded stuff for years. With NIL, they don't have to hide the under the table compensation and illegal payments anymore. However, dishonesty and lying is ingrained in their culture. They likely promised Rez and dad the moon, now things have changed. A cautionary tale of dealing with a shady program.
He reportedly got paid big-time so the grass was indeed greener. He left for dollars. All that other stuff is talk.

Ehhh I think Morez and co burned some pretty serious bridges here before they left.

I don’t normally buy the fluff around guys leaving but I do think there’s legit bad blood there.

Mirkovic averaged more points and rebounds than Tomi did two years younger on the same professional team. He's not the greatest jumper, but he can play. Would be one of the best euros in college next year.
