Exactly right. Family grew up in Western Illinois, so no allegiance to Chicago. Grew up an Illini, Packers, and Cardinals fan. Have seen Illinois football win a Big Ten title along with the Packers and Cardinals winning titles. The last piece of the puzzle is an Illinois basketball national title. After 1989, I really thought I’d see one soon after. It’s why I despise Pearl so much. His actions robbed Illinois, and I’ll never forgive him.

Watkins is not the #1 guy that I am looking for to enter (he would be #2). When #1 enters (assuming he does), I will let everyone know. The staff is VERY confident they will land this kid if he enters, and it would be a massive addition.
To be that confident would likely be someone OA landed, a Illinois HS player, or a near previous committed player for the Illini.

Arkansas has big NIL pockets, so not sure we could pull Arkansas players. Better prospect than Watkins? Needs to be a tall guard, heavy scorer.. not sure who fits that description who has eligibility and not getting drafted.

So I have written Riley off as a 1% chance of returning, but going through draft boards seems like he will fall somewhere in the mid/late 20's and potentially into the 2nd round. Granted, I would imagine his stock is trending way up, and we will see what happens in a few weeks when the combine starts, but is there a realistic path to him returning?

Wow, that’s a mic drop

Someone like PJ Haggerty or JT Toppin would be massive but I have no idea why we would be confident we would get them- so probably not them

The kid from UC SanDiego that’s from NZ would be awesome if he still has eligibility with the new rule

Someone better than Watkins is very intriguing!

Like you said he’s highly likely a first round pick and will go- the only path would be that he doesn’t have very good measurables at the combine- wingspan, vertical, bench, short area quickness, likely won’t be good for him, so if that pushes him to second round, he could come back

I too am very curious, but I didn’t take @LvilleILL1 to mean “better” necessarily, but rather that this guy will be the #1 priority target over Watson. I figure that could be due to better relationships or other “ins” with this player over Watson.

But we’ll see

This is a funny hallucination from Google AI

AI Overview

PJ Haggerty and Orlando Antigua's connection lies in their shared time at the University of Illinois, where Antigua served as an assistant coach, and Haggerty was a player on the team.

Is JJ Starling a possibility? 17 PPG, haven't heard much of him in Syracuse. I'm sure OA has cross paths with him, New York HS player. 6-4 but only 30% 3 pt shooting.

How about Myles Byrd from San Diego State. 6-7 SG. UNC has several SG/WF types that didn't seem to gel well this year.

Maybe Adou Thiero? clearly a connection to OA there and he is showing up in the second round now in mocks - as others said earlier - that would be massive and I would also prioritize him over Watkins
