Ben has a bench spot if he wants to. If he comes back he might get buried in the depth chart though.
Are any of our transfers(not yet committed) going to be used as an alpha scorer or are we going after role pieces and we'll see if anyone steps up? Not sure that I'm seeing our offensive direction.......yet. Without a dynamic wing and power 4, we're really going to struggle against athletic/physical teams.

There are worse things than getting a free advanced degree from Illinois while being a member of the basketball team. I assume he’s a grad student at least.
I’ve been thinking along these lines this whole time. If Ben were indeed going to spend his bonus year somewhere else, he’d probably have to drop down a level. But he has a chance to get a degree from the University of Illinois, make some decent money (likely not as much as before, but still…) and have a roster spot in a system he’s already spent a year in and is familiar with. Given his long journey from NAIA to mid-major to the Big Ten, this seems like a very good option.

I'm sure he will wear out his welcome quickly there as he really seems like a guy you really don't want to play multiple seasons for especially in the NIL era
Sure, but playing multiple seasons for the same college team is so old-fashioned.

I know a lot of folks became very frustrated with Ben, and there's good reason for that.

Personally, I hope he comes back. There's a really good player in there, IMO. A year of B10 ball under his belt. Coming back as a role player off the bench, rather being expected to start and contribute right away. No pressure of being "this year's Dalton Knecht," as one guy said on the Field of 68 before the start of this season. I can see Ben being an important bench piece on the next team.
