I know there is all kinds of rumors and false info out there. I know we would loce to have him back , is there much truth to this?

Will Riley and his family are strongly considering a return to college, and Illinois’ NIL organization Icon for Illini is working on an offer that would be competitive compared to the NBA if he was a late first round draft pick, according to the latest Illini Inquirer podcast. Kind of surprising considering Will has appeared as high as 15 on ESPN’s mock draft with how he played late in the season. But he’s also been projected low first round, a position he could definitely improve on given more time. Exciting things ahead either way!
I’ve looked all over the place and Will is generally in the 19-25 range in the first round. If he were to return and improve his three-point shooting (32.6% last year), strength, and grow defensively, he has a great chance to skyrocket into the lottery.

He should really consider it. I suspect he and his family are.

For some strange reason I have this feeling Illini haven’t seen the last of Will in an Illini jersey. I didn’t think big Kofi would come back also but this has that same feeling. Fully aware different draft circumstances but there is some smoke out there and it isn’t going away. Still see him announcing for the draft but won’t be shocked if he returns.

he's finding out first hand of scUM just being scum as we all here know from history.........sorry mr. johnson jr but it's a scUMmy world and you had to find out for yourself.....

Now I'm wondering if another program outbid the scUM offer with more $$$ and allowing jr to be the PG and guaranteed 5 three point shots per half.......maybe jr keeps searching for best offer till 10-15 minutes before tip off to games next season.........

seems like a very confusing time in the johnson crib , and crib might be a good definition for their residence........

Color me already tired of this former Illini's plight and travails........

If the direct quotes presented on-line were not accurate, Morez and his father could have easily refuted them and made their own public statement. There is no shortage of avenues to make even a vague statement to the contrary... Based on the lack of any type of an alternate narrative, the one put forth persists. I think rightfully so.
I haven't said anything on the Morez situation yet but I'll offer an alternative that I think stands to be a middle ground between some of the differing insider viewpoints and Morez's purported interview.

While the interview is questionable whether it was accurately recorded as published and no liberties were taken by the author, I think at this point we can safely call it at least somewhat truth adjacent. But when reading the interview, while I know people want to focus on single sentences about Kofi or Dain or shooting jumpers, what stood out to me is everything Morez and his dad said all seemed to center around a loss of faith in Brad and the staff to both utilize and develop him in a manner that best helps him improve as a player and take him to that next level. The downside of having so much faith and loyalty to something for so long, is that if you start being forced to question whether they have that same loyalty and faith in you, it usually gets ugly.

And when you look at it through that lens, that interview reminded me of a bad breakup or a divorce. If this was only about money or shooting 30 jumpers a game, you don't get quotes or interviews like that. This tells me Morez and his camp were hurt. It's why some insiders say it's because Ben played ahead of him (yes, that's why he brought up Dain not getting enough minutes), or him feeling shackled by the offense and his role (yes, that's why he brought up not being allowed to shoot and Kofi, an All-American who fair or not wasn't developed into an NBA player but Edey was).

And yes, I have no doubt it was also about money as some insiders said as I'm sure there were people in his dad's ear saying you know, Brad and his offense is wasting your kid's potential, you know we'd pay more and develop your kid into an NBA player. But money was far from the only reason here.

My conjecture is that Morez and his camp weren't all that happy in some decisions made this season with regards to playing time, development and who was getting those minutes instead. And they wanted certain assurances and changes made that Brad was unwilling to fully give in the end if season interview. It would also align with what another insider said that some kids can't handle it when Brad tells them the truth. I believe what happened was a frustrating year and a year end interview that went extremely wrong as whatever message or truth Brad was trying to say, seemed like it might have been received all too well.

So overall I think Morez went about this the wrong way and sorta went about it like a spurred lover hooking up with his former first love's hated rival and shoving it in her face. But I also think that usually results in cases where that first love broke his heart. As such, I won't be cheering for him, and I don't think what he's doing is right, but at this point I'm not ready to all out boo him yet either.

Are his arms growth plates open...?

23% 3 point shooter playing teams like Utah Tech? Not to mention crazy high turnover numbers
He was a volume scorer for Grand Canyon he wouldn't be playing the same role here.

He is an incredibly explosive 6'7 guard with long arms that can put a ton of pressure on defenses attacking the rim and in transition. Even when his shots not falling he can get to the line a ton. He plays hard and has a ton of defensive upside

As for playing high major competition. He put up 23 against Maryland in the tourney this year, 22 in an upset win against St Mary's last year, and 29 on Bama(he left points on the line too) in a game where they nearly took down a team that went to the final four(they were winning with like 5 minutes left).

He's a definite take if you put him in the right role meaning you aren't expecting him to be the guy. Plus, he would be a 26 year old in the locker room that nearly died on the court at DePaul and fought his way back. I would take that kind of kid in the locker room any day.
