Agreed. There's plenty of disinformation in the world, and this is just one more way for it to be problematic. Which brings me to Morez. I've been feeling somewhat queasy about how quickly the narrative formed that he and his father were asking for a role that doesn't seem to play to his strengths and that they were more interested in money than loyalty. It was just so out of the blue, and seems to have been based on one purported insider account on social media that has been noted to be not completely trustworthy in the past. It very quickly became accepted knowledge among Illini Nation. But is it true?

I've heard Derek Piper, who I DO consider a trustworthy source, allude to a change of heart for Morez and his family and so that backs up the questionable account above to some degree. I just hate the thought of Morez coming back to SFC next season and getting the Skyy treatment x100, perhaps based on an inflated and/or inaccurate narrative that has formed about why he left. It would have helped if he had attempted some sort of statement to the fanbase. Losing a fan favorite (certainly one of my favorites) in this way, and to Michigan, and without any sort of explanation or closure just really leaves a bad taste.
If the direct quotes presented on-line were not accurate, Morez and his father could have easily refuted them and made their own public statement. There is no shortage of avenues to make even a vague statement to the contrary... Based on the lack of any type of an alternate narrative, the one put forth persists. I think rightfully so.

It's such an easy thing to fix honestly. Players should only be able to enroll in 2 schools in their collegiate career. Only exception should be if their current head coach leaves. Then granted a 3rd. Fixes the issue to a degree while keeping a good amount of fairness for the players.

Good luck to Morez Johnson bouncing out of a good situation in Illinois and taking a chance that Michigan will treat him right. If they don't, he's stuck there. Would be less of this nonsense.
The courts have already ruled otherwise.

mr. johnson jr could be another " 4 teams in 4 years nomad traveller ".........since he basically burned all bridges related to the Illini I absolutely don't care if scUM treats him fairly or not...............I really really don't.......
Kind of with you…they made their bed, now they get to lie in it…and the manner in which they made that bed is the primary reason I won’t feel bad for whatever he gets when he comes back here.

And I say that having been a a fan of his and his play this year.

It just seems bizarre to me these college kids have more rights than MLB or NBA or NFL players. MLB players are drafted and then they owe 7 years of loyalty to that team, regardless of how that team treats them. 4 year actual deal and then 3 years mandatory arbitration. I don't have all of the answers, but it seems pretty obvious these kids are being given way too much at the moment, and some of it is to their detriment as well.
It's important to take into the account the history of those rules. The MLB used to have no free agency and the players had to fight for it, with service time being the compromise. The players didn't want all-out free agency because it could end up reducing salaries for the non-star players. The system is starting to show cracks, with teams buying out rookie contracts to secure some years down the line and service time manipulation rules.

Keep in mind, the MLB careers can be much longer, there's not enough college eligibility to justify securing a player for more than one year at a time.

Well he did really like how Memphis used Dainja, so we'll see!

Its my understanding from reading about several of the court cases that any NCAA transfer or eligibility restriction is subject to getting struck down under antitrust law, UNLESS the players collectively bargain and agree to it. And, currently, there is no collective bargaining.

I can't imagine Jackson suiting up for the O&B, but it would be an insanely good addition. He struggled a lot this year, but Davis is a flat-out terrible coach. I don't fully fault Ian for his rough season. (And yes, I watched a TON of Carolina basketball. I have family in NC, so I'm a fan of the Heels when they're not playing The Beloved.)

Again, I can't see a world where Illinois lands him, but if OA can work his magic, I guess you never know.

Just look at the difference between Illini basketball and football. You know Bret isn't getting top money for NIL but look how many recruiting battles he is winning over top football programs now. In basketball we are supposedly getting top10-15 NIL money and are having difficulty landing our targets if another top program gets involved. 🤔

I live out in Virginia. There are a lot of Tar Heel fans out here. I could not agree with you more about Davis. The only reason he is still there is because of the finals appearance he had.

I personally am intrigued of the verbiage of said NIL contracts if they aren't allowed to include the school or athletic team on them. Maybe there's an any change to your overall college admission status clause? Or geographic clause? Because if not, I'm genuinely amused by a possibility that some day say an Indiana recruit with a signed NIL deal might flip to a better deal at Louisville, but say they still intend to satisfy the Indiana NIL deal as well by making the agreed upon appearances in the contract.

I mean Indiana would technically be paying say 1.5M for the kid to make appearances at car dealerships. It shouldn't matter he goes to a different school, plus it's only 2 hours away, right?
Posted much the same last week, totally agree on the intrigue. Wild West, how long until this happens? Guessing there are exclusivity protections in the NIL contracts to protect against it.

Sorry, going to Michigan renders all else immaterial. He should get the treatment commensurate with any Michigan player, and if some want to add on for the way he left, so be it.

You want to leave and still be loved, go to say West Virginia or Kansas State. Perhaps with a note about never playing for another Big Ten team. Even Chester did that, on the coaching front. I'll also say that you can go to another Big Ten school and still be respected if you play hard and show the class you had here (Luke). But a big middle finger and a ride to Ann Arbor? Nope, let him hear it.

He would be awesome, UNC was a bit of a mess this year but he can play- former top 10 recruit and can shoot he would do great next to Boswell. I can see him making a leap his sophomore year

With the OA connection, hopefully we get a shot

It sounds good, but if a third school is offering more $$$, does not seem fair to deny a kid the opportunity to collect more money.

As someone else mentioned, it's not necessarily the fairness at play, but whether it is a collectively bargained for fairness. Just seems impossible for there to ever be a collective bargaining agreement since the pool of players changes every few years, so the law is just going to let it remain in this terrible state.

If you are figuring Boswell, Ty, and the Ivisic's plus Kirk as 5 spots, I would sincerely hope for 3 more additions where all of them are athletes.
What is the definition of an athlete? Just watch any of the final four teams' players and you will see the agility, quickness, and explosiveness of their players that we were mostly lacking this year. Also, these teams played tough defense.

Yeah. I don't understand this. The NCAA, conferences, etc. have has eligibility rules for student athletes for at least 75 years. Why is this suddenly an antitrust issue? The NCAA has some really bad lawyers.
