If the direct quotes presented on-line were not accurate, Morez and his father could have easily refuted them and made their own public statement. There is no shortage of avenues to make even a vague statement to the contrary... Based on the lack of any type of an alternate narrative, the one put forth persists. I think rightfully so.

Kind of with you…they made their bed, now they get to lie in it…and the manner in which they made that bed is the primary reason I won’t feel bad for whatever he gets when he comes back here.
And I say that having been a a fan of his and his play this year.
It's important to take into the account the history of those rules. The MLB used to have no free agency and the players had to fight for it, with service time being the compromise. The players didn't want all-out free agency because it could end up reducing salaries for the non-star players. The system is starting to show cracks, with teams buying out rookie contracts to secure some years down the line and service time manipulation rules.
Keep in mind, the MLB careers can be much longer, there's not enough college eligibility to justify securing a player for more than one year at a time.
Well he did really like how Memphis used Dainja, so we'll see!
Its my understanding from reading about several of the court cases that any NCAA transfer or eligibility restriction is subject to getting struck down under antitrust law, UNLESS the players collectively bargain and agree to it. And, currently, there is no collective bargaining.

I can't imagine Jackson suiting up for the O&B, but it would be an insanely good addition. He struggled a lot this year, but Davis is a flat-out terrible coach. I don't fully fault Ian for his rough season. (And yes, I watched a TON of Carolina basketball. I have family in NC, so I'm a fan of the Heels when they're not playing The Beloved.)

Again, I can't see a world where Illinois lands him, but if OA can work his magic, I guess you never know.
Just look at the difference between Illini basketball and football. You know Bret isn't getting top money for NIL but look how many recruiting battles he is winning over top football programs now. In basketball we are supposedly getting top10-15 NIL money and are having difficulty landing our targets if another top program gets involved.

I live out in Virginia. There are a lot of Tar Heel fans out here. I could not agree with you more about Davis. The only reason he is still there is because of the finals appearance he had.

Sorry, going to Michigan renders all else immaterial. He should get the treatment commensurate with any Michigan player, and if some want to add on for the way he left, so be it.
You want to leave and still be loved, go to say West Virginia or Kansas State. Perhaps with a note about never playing for another Big Ten team. Even Chester did that, on the coaching front. I'll also say that you can go to another Big Ten school and still be respected if you play hard and show the class you had here (Luke). But a big middle finger and a ride to Ann Arbor? Nope, let him hear it.
Then, he should've gone to Memphis. I think all of Illini Nation would've respected a choice like that

It sounds good, but if a third school is offering more $$$, does not seem fair to deny a kid the opportunity to collect more money.

Not an Illini prospect, but from quite the basketball family. His dad and uncle played in NBA, and I think his mom and sister were good hoopers too.

As someone else mentioned, it's not necessarily the fairness at play, but whether it is a collectively bargained for fairness. Just seems impossible for there to ever be a collective bargaining agreement since the pool of players changes every few years, so the law is just going to let it remain in this terrible state.

What is the definition of an athlete? Just watch any of the final four teams' players and you will see the agility, quickness, and explosiveness of their players that we were mostly lacking this year. Also, these teams played tough defense.
Yeah. I don't understand this. The NCAA, conferences, etc. have has eligibility rules for student athletes for at least 75 years. Why is this suddenly an antitrust issue? The NCAA has some really bad lawyers.
