BTW, I have a sinking feeling that the Illini will NOT sign Dame Sarr, and that Will Riley will NOT return next season. I truly HOPE that I am WRONG on both counts! 🤞 But that feeling is probably why I'm urging/pushing/wanting other Illini moves to be made soon/now in the transfer portal. Somehow adding Malachi Smith, Xaivian Lee, Kennard Davis, and LeJuan Watts would allow me to forget all about "missing" on Sarr and Riley. 😉
I think we can give up hope on Riley since he has become a consensus first rounder.

Jeez, excuuuuuuuse some of us "dumb dumbs" for wanting to get more athletic. We lost arguably one of the better athletes we had (MJ) and added 3 players that are not super athletic (Ty, Z, and Mirkovic). Good players/prospect and I'm glad to have them all. But is everyone satisfied with the athleticism of this past year's team? Would it have competed with Auburn, Duke (we already know), Houston, or FL? We haven't significantly improved that. Yes, it is super early, but other teams have added athletic transfers. I thought this was a board to express opinions. I guess it has to the the "right" opinion or one from an insider.
Wait a second….. you don’t think Ty is athletic?

All this weird "athlete or not" discussion is crazy and seems like some internal bias no matter which side of the spectrum you fall on.

For what it's worth, in Mirkovic's highlight tape, I saw him finish a few plays at the rim that there's zero chance Morez would ever finish or even come close to finishing.

He is, as I said in other posts. One of the better athletes we have, no doubt. But Houston, Auburn, Duke, and FL all had at least 3-4 players more athletic than Ty. I'm just saying we have to go get more of it, because we were sorely missing it this year and have not significantly improved it. Not all that controversial, albeit critical. Which I know is a no, no for some.

Those teams didn't have that many players more athletic than Ty. Ty can't shoot but in terms of pure physical abilities he is definitely up there.

Where is neck length on this chart?
Quicker on the draw again...
Sad Face GIF

I'd call the ability to shoot an athletic trait... some here might enjoy watching track events more than basketball it seems.

I think Malik Moore is a good offensive player but his defensive rating of 114.3 is a bit concerning, especially considering the Big Sky isn't that great. There aren't too many 2's that can shoot efficiently and play around average defense in the portal currently. Just a bit worried about our defense besides Boswell and Ty who are great athletes.

Malik Thomas of San Fran - high defense rating 97.4, shoots lower % on high volume, high FT rate, not great assist/TO, but almost 40% from 3. - Higher competition in West Coast Conf
Malik Moore - low defense rating, good shooting 45.6/40.9/82.2, better assist/TO ratio - Lower competition in Big Sky Conf

I also like Wesley Yates if he had more than 1 year of experience, his numbers are great. Rodney Rice looks good too if he wasn't being recruited to Tenn with Gillespie. Melvin Council plays great defense, great assist/TO ratio but has poor shooting % besides FT.

Hopefully some bigger fish 2's enter the portal like the insiders said. Thanks for all the info and discussion, have a great day everyone!

I think Ty would fit right in with a team like Houston, Tennessee and Auburn. I agree that we need more of those gritty-type players.

I am hoping the Twins with their size will affect shots in the paint. I am all for them being outside shooters, but they both need to post up, be MORE physical and get some baby-hooks and close-to-the-rim baskets.

I don't mean to sound pushy/ungrateful, but how do we get our two future draft picks to announce? I don't want to miss on Sarr.

That's probably the most likely outcome for both. I'd guess a 5% chance Riley returns. And Sarr, against the field (and the nBA) I would guess less than 50/50.
