Illini were #17 on KenPom (close losses kept them around AP #25).

The 2026 team will be better on defense. That is still 50% of the game.
Think Tim Robinson GIF by NETFLIX

Is Hamer still running the show?

Underwood doesn't play 9 guys, he rarely plays 8 guys. So any dollar spent on anyone beyond the 7th or 8th guy is largely wasted.
Disagree, you never know when someone may get mono, the flu, twist an ankle, or sprain a wrist or fracture one. Or need an occasional big body to match up with a few teams. Something we lacked this season. It may not be big bucks but you never know when someone may be called to step up.

Adam Miller is 23 now. He has a sturdy build and can score thru contact. A legit three level scoring threat and he shot 42% from 3 last year. As far as him leaving, that's basketball today. As far as how much he plays, that's BU's decision. He didn't melt down on 3/21/21 like some of his teammates. I would welcome him back.
I loved that team, and I still cannot believe what happened in that game. I think it was the only game of Ayo's career that he didn't score in double figures a Trent only scored 2 points. As I recall, Kofi and Adam Miller were the only players that played well at all, and that's my lasting memory of him. I'm excited to have him back, I hope it happens.

That roster has "bubble" written all over it.

Mr. Whitman, just fire Hamer and T. Underwood

i hope brad never goes with one and done guys again. what did we get out of this?? one fairly mediocre season for both (in terms of expectation; especially KJ), one mediocre season for the team, another rebuild from scratch.

this isn't me going the "morez leaves, everything's a failure" route (rather totally different). i'm saying if we instead invested on older guys (that are just as "big fish") with the majority of our $$$ that these two took up, yes we would've gotten that "older guy" for one year too, but it would've been a better one year and a better season with more consistent play and less lackluster performances. by going young, the product on the floor was not as sufficient as it could've, and you only get them for one year.

Two outcomes to me:

One stud + two solid role players
Two studs + one solid role player

Depending on timing imo. Either way, we are going to be very good.
I think it’s entirely reasonable to expect us to be a top 15 team next. I really don’t think the top scenario gets us there. We’ve got 3 or 4 guys who should be all big ten 3rd team and honorable mention. Unless I’m severely underestimating the impact of this singular stud I have my concerns.

That being said if we get a season out of Boswell the way he played in his final 5 or so games and Tomi can become reliable in the paint offensively, I think I can see a path towards a protected seed next year.

If we had money on the sidelines for Riley and he isn't coming back, can we redirect to get Sarr and another stud guard/wing such as Cedric Coward. Sorry, but PepeSilva is to blame for introducing his game to the board last year. Just seems like such as great team player with the ability to make his own shot. Great measurables, rebounder, defender, assist man.

Until it isn’t. How many games were we completely healthy this year?
ok, and with all the sickness and injury, how many guys averaged over 10 mpg? oh let me see 8. How many played more than 15 mpg, oh gee 7.

It's almost like after 8 years, you can get a pretty good feel for how a guy handles his rotation. If you think it's all going to change in year 9, knock yourself out.

Depending on $$$ as well …

Agree on the outcomes …

Also agree we’re going to be good again … Question is how good … Competing for Big Ten and 2nd weekend is the expectation this year …
Honestly the expectation should be competiting for the third weekend because I don’t see how we will have a more experienced team anytime soon after what we will lose this next year

I am as big a Boz fan as anyone and Tomi is likely All B10 on some level and Boz may be too. That being said if we add Sarr I believe he will be our best player and a first round pick if not lottery after a year to grow here and develop with Fletch. I like a Mirkovic just so we can match up a little better with TKR of Purdue and Payne of the Terps. If we can add Sarr, Miller and some depth with a solid Combo guard to challenge Miller and help out Boz at PG (not Ty) then I will like our squad.

I do think that a defensive set of wings like Boz, Sarr, Miller and Ty is a tough vastly underrated group defensively. I still hope we add a combo or PG guard to help out. I know Ty can play the small four too I just prefer a bigger/ shooter at the 4.
