Any updates on 6'2" 180-pound Sophomore PG Dylan Darling of Idaho State? I read an article that Illinois and Indiana were both interested in DD. Last season, he averaged 19.8/3.4/5.7 while shooting 44.1/35.6/81.0 for the Idaho State Bengals. Playing at the Big Ten level would be a big jump for Dylan Darling, but he'd have 2 years of eligibility left in which to make the necessary improvements/adjustments. I wonder what his asking price is.

Last year was a better year than most coaches could pull off after losing 98% of scoring or whatever the number was. I trust Brad is smart enough to not go after some of the names being mentioned here.

Higher expectations this next season for sure. Close on Sarr and land two good complimentary pieces and I think they have a chance to be very good next year.
I think that Sarr would be our best chance to sign a stud player. Hope it happens. The "two good complimentary pieces" that the Illini might then add? In your opinion, what two positions would/should those two complimentary pieces play? What are our two greatest positions of need for next season?

Last we had 2 role players coming back - Ty and DGL
This year we return 2 starters - Kylan and Tomas, 2 role players Ty, Jake.
So far so good on portal - Big Z and Mircovic
Only downside is losing Morez

My goal would be contend for B10 title, make it to BTT semis, get 5 seed or better. I think if we can get 1 more good portal player (more than 10 ppg role player) we should be able to do that. Losses to NW, Nebraska and USC did us in. No KJ injury or Tomas mono and we are sweet 16

Is last offseason the model? 7th in the Big Ten, 6-seed, two and out.
I'll run back where we stood on January 1 any day of the week.

Sarr would be a huge coup and is the difference making piece. The question really is what's the Plan B if that can't work.

We are a big time perimeter scorer short, that's clear.

I think that it's time that we all come together and agree that our NIL budget has been way overstated.
You're preaching to the choir on the propaganda campaign about our NIL powers, but there is also a total lack of understanding about what a free marketplace looks like where there's a ton of schools all in the same general ballpark of funding.

NO ONE has the drawing power that the insiders claim we have. No one has the financial firepower to win the bidding for their 3rd top target who is the 1st top target of somebody else because the gaps just aren't that big.

I agree with this. Let's see what happens but "hoping" to reach S16 next year is not an "Elite" feeling.

BU uses that word, so I do expect "Elite" results. Again, let's wait and see, but I am not really impressed at this moment.

For me, it's not "Elite" if Ben comes back. Sorry. I don't care if he pays Illinois to play: he is nowhere near "Elite."

I see Dame Sarr as more of a wing/small forward at 6''7.5" tall, with a wingspan of almost 7 feet. Do you think that will be Sarr's position at Illinois? If so, I'm interested in YOUR opinions on PG Samage Teel (Indiana State) and SG Kennard Davis Jr (Southern Illinois Carbondale). Would they qualify as complimentary pieces in your opinion? What dollar amounts do you think it would take for Illinois to sign each of these transfers?

Not everybody on the team has to be “elite.” 🙄

sarr monsanto and miller is pretty good.

boswell/monsanto/sarr/Mirkovic/tomi
miller/davis/rodgers/humrichous/bigz - as the bench.

Bos = Bos
T = T
Z < Rez
Sarr = KJ
? = Riley
Mirk = Tre

I guess you can say that players will get better but that's not a given. Kylan has regressed every year statistically since he came into the league at least in terms of offensive efficiency.

We still need someone that is going to be Riley's caliber or better in addition to Sarr for me to drink the kool-aid that were going to be better than last year.

With this statement does that mean that the “two studs and a role player” option is now off the table?

I'm completely on board with getting Sarr and two complimentary players. Ultimately, when the games start, our success will rely heavily on how well we play together, accept roles, and play good defense. I hope we dont have to watch the same defensive intensity/scheme as the past two years.

all of these insiders, no disrespect to any on here overshot the NIL budget by a lot. If they had 2mil saved up for riley just in case, how are we low on funds for other pieces.

i find it hard to believe that adam miller getting 1.5mil has any validity

We established this is a B season and totally great already

Someone else doesn't understand how tariffs work.

I wish we knew the exact $ amount of NIL we had to know if the rumblings we’ve already ran through all NIL funds and everything left is rev share are true. How are we getting outbid on pretty much everybody? Big Z and Mirk were practically locks to come here so no being outbid there, but everyone else…
Just because we got them early doesnt mean people weren't in on them. You think they had no other offers? We're not getting outbid by everybody. People see what they want to see.

A big part of last season not ending the way we all wanted was KJ’s injury. We got off to a really good start, had several quality wins, and looked like we had a real shot to make some real noise in large part because Kasparas was playing like one of the better players in the country. He gets hurt at Washington in mid January and he was never the same and neither was the team.

Have to avoid those catastrophic injuries, and even though he played in games, we lost KJ in January.
