Crawling out of the woodwork to rear my ugly head… Some of y’all need a TO from screen time. Between the hand-wringing and the gawd awful puns, for Pete’s sake. I know “fan” is short for “fanatic” but some of youse are embarrassing yourselves.

Let. Brad. Cook.

You should get familiar with AJ Dybantsa

I've watched both. It will be one of the two. Dame with an extra year and 10-15 lbs is better imo. Already playing with Euro pros.

This current squad has obvious holes right now. (Lack of athleticism, physicalness, wings, guys that can get to and finish consistently at the rim.

No shot in this world or any other I pay Adam Miller 7;figures or anything close to it. We have spot up shooters already Offer him a bench role. If he gets more money and role elsewhere, so be it.

There's going to be decommits/portals and even reclasses available. Id rather wait on that than to overpay Adam Miller

Listen to some folks and we are doomed to a future of insignificance. We should just give up on competing in the BIg10 and join a weak mid major conf.

What happened his last year at Wake? Injuries?
Knee injury at the end of the '22-'23 season (torn patellar tendon), then had some setbacks in recovery that lasted into the '23-'24 season that meant he started the season late, and then he slowly had his role reduced to the point of healthy DNPs.

AJ would be the best player on several NBA teams right now

He's a NBA franchise cornerstone. Will be great seeing him in college....but it's going to be apparent quickly he's wasting his time there.

Love that people like Sarr but there's zero comparing the abilities. Not to mention Dames already a class older. AJ just turned 18. Dame turns 19 in a couple months. AJ already has a man's body at 18

I think my approach with the team next year will be a team similar to last year’s team. 20+ win team. Competitive but probably middle of the BIG10. Sounding like relying on a couple of Freshmen starters again and some more experienced players who the jury will be out on at what level they can play at. Big T and Bos could be 1st team all conf and bench should be able to help out. If they exceed my expectations I will be extremely happy but if not I will take another year like last season. It is so tough to build a team that is ELITE anymore. A program has to have unlimited $$ and I just don’t think Illini are there just yet.

He's now going to get injured early, take a redshirt year, and go back in the portal next spring. And we shall relive it again. It is now written.

So we are going to rely on a freshman being our best player again? (Refer to Sarr) that has not worked for any team since Kentucky in 2012. Wish we could have an older more experienced player be our best player. But gotta trust the staff
Duke 2015 but yes, your point still very much stands. And all the more so in this transfer portal era.

With all due respect, KJ wasn't the same after his injury and struggled a decent amount the 2nd half so wouldn't shock me if we got more out of Sarr if we can land him assuming he stays healthy. Loved KJ but it was so hard to watch the turnovers in the second half of the season. Now that I know he was still injury plagued that makes sense that he's still a lottery pick, b/c he got his pocket picked or threw the ball away a lot. I don't see a Sarr being that turnover prone next year.
But Tomi was also sick for a chunk of games with mono and had to build his strength and stamina back as a freshman. That one is a big T>T a year older, second year in the states, second year at U of I, second year of chemistry with Bos, Jake, and Ty coming back to play with him.
Also I don't buy Z<Rez. Loved Rez but fouled a lot and didn't have an offensive game, which is understandable as a freshman, but Z has some good experience can shoot the three and clog the lane at 7'2". I'd say that's at least Z=Rez.
Mirk and Tre is too much of an unknown as Tre seemed to be a bit of a head case and we haven't seen Mirk yet, so I'm fine with that being a Mirk=Tre now.
I could also see Bos>Bos second year in the system, back home, returning players and his senior year.
I'm with you wanting another stud, but I think if we got two really solid role players that can shoot and/or play great defense and rebound I think we'll be just fine. Ty is a pretty big wildcard here too. I think we can D some teams up when Bos, Ty, and Z are on the court (maybe even Sarr). And if we landed Miller (I know this is unknown too), he played solid D as a freshman at Illinois. We will be very dynamic and I'd like to see us get back to playing great defense. We were pretty bad on D last year. But add a 7'2" guy and get Ty back and we're already that much better on D.
I'm not saying your projection is off by a lot, but seeing that a handful of these guys will have already played together, everyone is a year older, and we added a 7'2" guy to play with a 7'0" guy will automatically make us better. But would love to get Sarr and another stud.
That's too many words. I'm not reading that.

Same cycle every offseason.
Agree, and if you check when the majority of the whiners joined this site, it seems they joined since the end of the CoHawk era. Those who have been through this a couple of times or more seem to take it with a yawn. There is a high probability that the three adds to the roster have not even had their names posted on this site. As has been said many times, if you are impatient and nervous about the future roster, go away and come back in Oct. and pull like hell for these kids, whoever they are.

Sarr should be good. Looked good slashing to the basket last Saturday. But look at AJ, Darryn Peterson & Boozer as the top 3 picks in 26.. Next year's draft looks good just like this years.
