If Ian Jackson decides now, Illinois probably can’t take him. $$$. Poor timing for them.
imo if you can go get jackson, you do it and then go back to the boosters and ask for more money to lock up sarr.
I feel like it would be a lot more acceptable to ask for more money for sarr with Jackson in tow. You can try to sell boosters a top 10 team if you add sarr

(and I'm sure it doesn't work this way/is more complicated)

Chester Frazier is another player this board would have had a hissy fit about retaining. The Loyalty Board Biff Tannens would’ve said “Make like a tree, Ches-TEARS Frayed-jerk!”

Lmao. So, everyone who points out Ben's shortcomings is a bully, Biff Tannen, Mean Girl, ingrate?

Yet you are the only one actually name calling?

Ben's not a B1G caliber player. Maybe in this current climate, neither is/was Jack. But then is not now, and now is not then so I'll rely on my eyes, and opinions of basketball dudes with light years more insight than me, and he still won't match Jack's 2005 year..nor will he play like Jack and endear himself to Illini hearts and minds with his play.

I think the issue is frequency and tone rather than the sentiment itself.

If I gently point out to my wife that something she does is a pet peeve of mine, that's communication. If I tell her, every day, multiple times a day, that I hate this thing she does, it drives me crazy, why do you do this to me?!, and start referring to her derisively by a name based on this thing she does that I hate, then I'm going to find myself shopping for a divorce attorney.

Let me make this concrete.

Is the board's consensus that Yaxel Lendenborg, Aday Mara, Morez Johnson and Elliot Cadeau is a better foursome for next season than Kylan Boswell, David Mirkovic and the Ivisic twins? An easy comparison since it's roughly the same positions.

Yaxel is likely (but not certainly!) the best individual player there, but I think I'd shade the foursome our way. It's close, if you don't think it's at least close you've been diagnosed with Portal Brain.

Yaxel is far and away the best player of that group …

Talent wise … I like our group as a whole better than the Michigan group … But it’s close …

Also - I think Dusty gets more out of his group than Brad does with his …

Isn’t Monsanto a head case anyways? Ben will bounce back.
That's never hurt us in the past though...

Bingo … Bigger stage … Brighter lights …

He cost us wins … If those 6 games are wins how different does the season look ? It’s obviously not just Ben contributing to wins or losses but if he shot 40% like many on here suggest he can do … I’d be willing to bet half of those at minimum aren’t losses …
Just out of curiosity, did anyone shoot well in those losses or in other words, what were the shooting percentages of everyone else in those games? If more than one person shot poorly I don't think it is fair to pin the loss on Ben. (I am on the side of not bringing him back but I wanted to be fair if others were shooting badly in those games).

Those are Jack's 5th year statistics

He literally shot 14% from 3 the year prior to bringing him back for that 5th year So?

I just love rehashing this Ben Humrichous stuff and getting to experience everyone trash the kid one more time... lol jeez you guys

Critiquing Ben's play, even if humorously exaggerated for fun message board laughs, is not trashing the kid.

It's absolutely laughable that we continued to trot him out with an unlimited green light over Morez and Riley...and hell even DGL.

Oh trust me I get it. I am #1 on the list of not wanting to talk about Humrichous at Illinois any more.

This is as important a point as any when it comes to the "who's group looks better on paper" argument.

As a whole who you bring in is only as important as what you get out of them.

Dusty in year 1 went to the S16 and finished at the top of the conference. So yes to those who do not believe it we are behind and we need to fill the holes.

Posts #136 and #148 on this thread have some good context on this.

You have a very active imagination, got the "what if" game down cold. Complete with some convoluted name calling for people that dare to criticize someone's poor play. Very inspirational

I'm still embarrassed by how the Illini Internet at large treated Chester while he was a player.

There was also a stretch where May and Michigan looked completely lost, and we waxed the floor with them. They were ranked below us on KenPom, ended up with a better seed than us, and won one more game in the tournament. They also spent a ton of money in the portal last offseason. Maybe more than us. Maybe less. Honestly, all-in-all, their team and our team were not that far apart in talent or in results. They did have a significantly older team than us, to the extent that is a predictor of how well talent equates to results.
