I mean 4 other big time programs are willing to pay it..
Illinois tried that route this past year paying big money to freshmen to lead the team and it didn't work well for them. I don't blame them for not wanting to try it again. We are assuming we have other options though that are decent. I sure hope we do, but I can't believe anything I read about it.

HumBRICKhouse coming back is biggest waste of money. I don’t care what insiders say but should be a given that he should not be in Big 10 based upon defense and BRICKS. He’s taking up a spot where we can get more athletic. Every time he shot I was like BRICK. He’s terrible.

Until players see incentive for the team doing well NIL is broke. The highest bidder wins that player doesn’t give u wins

Last year how much did Wisky pay for their team or St Mary’s compared to UNC Gonzaga Kansas

I don’t know who over or under performed but Tonje was the 296 ranked transfer. Look at how many top 100 transfers were not that good last year.

Goes both ways imo. Yes, more money = more likely to get the guys we go after. At the same time, are we winning the battles where all else is held constant (i.e., we're willing to pay the same amount as other programs)? Doesn't seem like it. But it's super early. There's time for things to change, but to Indy's point, the lack of campus visits is concerning.

I do appreciate that this staff has upper limits after which they are not willing to go for certain players. You can't pay everybody everything and need to maximize dollars. That said, is their math off? Not clear at this moment.

I wonder if we're going to see the inverse of last offseason, where prices consistently went up the further we got into the portal period. With how dramatically prices for players have risen in recent weeks, I wonder if we'll see that taper back down as we get further along and fewer teams are pushing all their chips in for certain players. Some teams have thrown a lot of money at certain players and have hit on most of them, filling up their roster (e.g., Louisville); perhaps those teams will be less competition later in the process, clearing the way for more value adds? If we can find players that are ready to commit around the time that other players are pulling out of the draft, we could hit on some value with a late glut in the market. But that's a high risk proposition. We could easily end up holding a half-empty bag, which is what I think most of us here are worried about.
2 weeks after the season has ended, how visits do you think most other programs have had? We have 100% more than many. College bball is going to be about how much money each program has to spend more importantly than who coaches. JW needs to step it up as well in this new environment and probably more so than anyone which I think he is capable of. BYU will be the new Kansas, NC, etc. in this new era, the Mormon church/tax free business funding can outspend anyone. They are LOADED.

dame sarr is not worth 3million dollars.

I'll take jamir watkins whos playing his last year of college ball in his 5th year over a 1 and done.
I get that it's difficult to lose a recruiting battle for a top level player, but let's not overdose on the copium.

Dame Sarr is a starting caliber player on one of the best Euroleague teams. He has proven himself against against top level European grown-@$$ men players. Yes, it sucks that it won't be us, but Dame Sarr will be worth every single penny he gets from whatever college team gets him.

What a strange comment. How bout we compare big ten players against other big ten players and not a poster on a message board. The twins are soft down low. That is obviously an issue. How well has Murkovic done in big ten play? Ty,hummer and JJ really that what you want down low as bangers and enforcers down low?

One certainty is that message board posters have no idea how players will prove their worth on the court.

The Humrichous nickname needs to not be a thing. Let's all agree to make that little period of time be short-lived, shall we?

Also, Peoria boys should always be welcomed back. That's familly within familly. REALLY hope we get Ace back. Ace/Ty is good for this Illini fan's soul this off-season.

Last year was a bummer and we definitely need a deep March run again here soon, but if we pull Miller and a 3 that can seriously ball, I'll be pumped for next year.

#GoodJuJu to the chase, Brad.
