I am guessing reams are getting desperate and bidding with NCAA $20m budget. Since that budget is for all sports you run the risk of tanking your football program.

Should be interesting what happens to basketball at football powers

This board's obsession with comparing every white basketball player to Marcus Domask is funny and charming, but rarely more askew than here.

Andrej is longer and much more athletic than Domask, never backs down an opponent to operate out of the post (I think I counted one single post touch in his video), plays very rapidly unlike Domask's slo-mo hesitation game, and in two full seasons in college has fewer than half as many total assists as Domask had in his single season here.

They are absolutely nothing alike.

Storr can leap (as can Andrej) but he's really stiff, he's not fluid, that's why I never bought him as an NBA player.

Well don't lump me in with the message board 😁 I can't recall ever making a Domask comp until now

I'm actually not making the comparison I think you are seeing. I am saying look at what Marcus Domask turned himself into in a short 5-6 months. Domask was certainly no booty ball master at SIU nor was he a distributor at SIU, at least not at the level he became here.

You're correct and I agree that there are stark differences between the two, but currently Andrej is closer to March 2024 Domask than even the guy himself was prior to arriving here.

I like this a lot. It seems like D-1 experience/age is a north star metric this year, maybe include this as well?

For AdjORtg and AdjDRtg, this might be tricky but if you could put together a weighted average by team using average min/game, this could be a way to put together an early pre-season ranking by finding each team's adjusted efficiency.

I like the summary table because you see some jarring stats that you wouldn't otherwise be exposed to as an Illini fan, like Washington having 1 returning player and 6 incoming freshmen. That place is going to be a daycare center.

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely want to add eligibility remaining, but I was finding it tough to get definite answers on many players. Though, I suppose an approximation would be good enough.

We keep landing these Eastern Europeans and we’re gonna attract some nice NIL from the cig companies.

Remaining budget here is way too high. At this time ~4MM remaining
Good to see you back, man. Thanks for the info. Nice to know what is actually available at the moment. Gives us a glimpse into what may be possible and what isn’t. I hope Andrej and Adam becomes a thing. I’d feel great about that.

We shall see…

Can someone explain to me what Purdue has that we don’t? They’re about to be a top 5 team in the country and we’re barely sniffing the top 25.
Purdue is benefitting from a couple of things right now:
1) Their best players are very good college players, but not NBA talent, so they are playing 4 years in college (maybe not a bad strategy to start recruiting these types of players, ones not on NBA radars)
2) It's always easier to raise money to retain all-big ten players - we saw that with Kofi coming back, TSJ etc. donors will always fund bringing back a known player they love - Purdue's donors ponied up this year to bring back their big three given they had a taste of the final game in '23 and know they can get back there - that is a very easy sell
3) Their staff has done a good job cultivating the culture - even with the first two things being true, you still have to convince your kids to stay and run it back and they have been able to do that.

If the goal is calculating age then maybe D-1 experience is a good metric vs working the other way?

This one is also kind of a pot shot but Kenpom has a calculation for it that I got to work one time by ChatGPTing the formula, you may also be able to add player data into ChatGPT to get to "total D-1 experience."

Don't we have higher priorities than 3rd center?
I was thinking 4/5 that shoots 61.5% and gets 7.4 rbs a game...it's kinda what we're looking for at the 4...but agree we need a lot of things...

Domask led SIU in assists each of his last three seasons and did play out of the post, see the latter stages of this video:

He had those tools in his toolbox. But all the credit goes to BU for MacGuyvering his way to building an elite offense through those tools on a team with no point guard.

It ain't complicated, it's continuity. A great coach with a clearly defined system handpicked those guys and has been shaping them within that consistent system and developing them together for years and both he and his donor base have kept faith and believed that they would continue to grow and take steps forward as time went on.

IF you can pick the right players and IF you can keep them together and IF you're a high quality X's and O's coach there's no doubt that you're going to make a great team that will beat up most of the half @ssed AAU rosters out there. But doing those three elements together for a sustained period has become almost impossible, all credit to Painter for pulling it off.

It is hard to imagine many future final fours or even elite 8's where a non-Major 4 conference (or Big East school) is a participant. How can these smaller conferences and schools compete in this era of +$10M rosters? It is kind of sad because I was always happy to see a "David" defeat a "Goliath" and make a run towards a national title. Now these smaller schools are like minor league teams where their good players will leave for $$$$ after 1 year.
