I get that from an accounting perspective, but that is by far one of the dumbest reasons to wait on announcing or bringing someone else in (especially considering we will likely be spending $8+M on the roster). As an outsider, it makes me feel like Brad is content with the staff he has or the top tier assistants do not want to come here. Because if we had a top target that wanted to come, I am sure that would have already been put in place (given we are deep in the portal season). Of course I am an uninformed outsider and my perceptions are likely far from what is actually happening (I hope).

I can't quite figure out the argument that the players are not worth what they are getting. The only reason for all the TV money and ticket revenue is the players. Football and basketball coaches at state universities typically are the highest paid state or university employees. According to public records, Underwood made $4.8 M this season...and was paid a $335,000 bonus for the 2023-24 season. By comparison, the president of the U of I system makes a little over $900,000.
In the NBA, NFL and MLB, many players make more than the head coach/manager. Players using the facilities to improve their game is no different than any student that use classrooms, labs or the library. Add free tuition plus room & board for basketball and football players and they still bring in more money than they make. There are a lot of things wrong with the NIL and portal system, including lack of binding agreements. I'm certainly in the minority, but I'm happy that the players are finally getting paid a fair amount for what they bring in.
Illinois does have a major advantage with guys not hung up in the draft - Will isn't coming back. UK can be all in on Andrej and Eaglestaff and Sarr and Watkins, but at a certain point, they have an Oweh question, just like Duke has an Evans question.
Really just an attempt at a joke at the expense of one of the extreme strawmans of the board. No intention to imply that other extremes don't deserve similar scrutiny.

Kentucky has a lot more money than us, but the same number of players and basketballs allowed on the court at one time. They can't get Watkins AND Stojakovic AND Eaglestaff AND Haggerty AND Sarr AND bring back Oweh AND AND AND.

I definitely hope that third guy can backup at PG. just because Ty of Andrej “can,” doesn’t mean the should. A minute here or there depending on matchups, fine. More than that and no one to take over should Bam get nicked up, not so fine.
