I don’t believe he had any kind of season ending injury his first year at Baylor. I agree he could have a case, but playing any amount of games eliminates a redshirt based on the rule
The season he redshirted was 20-21, which the NCAA has set precedent doesn't count for eligibility, so his redshirt is null and could be applied the following season, as you actually can redshirt a season in which you play games, even if it's not officially the rule, the NCAA has made it clear they won't fight this anymore.

Thomas is a pass for reasons …

Swope is out of eligibility …

Davis is asking for too much $$$ … More than Ace …
I don't suppose you can give me a hint about the pass on Malik Thomas?

On ESPN, it shows that Swope played one season at Southern Indiana, one season at Indiana, State, and one season at SLU. If you know, at what other NCAA school did he play?

Wow! So, K Davis is asking for $1M plus?I understand passing on him...unless we're willing to pay Adam Miller the same/similar dollar figure.

Let's say we don't add any of Sarr, Coward, Watkins, or Stojakovic. One crazy option would be to instead add 4-5 young players, all Sophomores, and develop them! We could have them for two seasons, which would also provide continuity from the 25-26 season to the 26-27 season.

For example, here are 5 potential Sophomores available still via the transfer portal:
George Kimble III, Eastern Kentucky, 6'2" 184-pound G
AJ Brown, Ohio, 6'4" 210-pound G
Kennard Davis Jr, Southern Illinois, 6'6" 215-pound G
Nick Dorn, Elon, 6'7" 200-pound CG
Josh Harris, North Florida, 6'8" 210-pound F

Add those 5 transfers to the following 9 players:
T Ivisic
Z Ivisic
D Mirkovic
J Jakstys
J Davis
T Rodgers
K Boswell
K Wagler
J Lee

That's a decent 14-player roster, with only one player (Boswell) out of eligibility after the 25-26 season.
You realize the world of trying to count on keeping a roster together for more than one season at a time is gone, right?

They'll all be committed elsewhere by time we're done waiting for our top targets to shoot us down.

That might put us one kidney short of getting Sarr...
Silly, throw in a ….

But maybe it would work with these particular transfers? If they improve modestly, we increase their NIL money (modestly?) to retain them. If they improve dramatically, we make a big increase in their NIL money to keep them on board. I also don't see any of these players being NBA Draft caliber after one season at Illinois.

Is that the best team we can get this year? Doesn’t matter who has eligibility after this year. When the season is over free agency starts all over.

That's the problem the Illini are facing by not making at least some additions now. We're holding on to our money in pursuit of the big fish/studs we're still pursuing.

If we don't have enough money to keep Ben maybe he can re-join in a staff capacity!

I get what you’re saying, but I just think realistically you just can’t count on anyone to stick around. They might, but coaches have to have multiple game plans as we are seeing. College game will NEVER be the same.

Yes, I was anxious to see a few years of Morez as he developed and saw DGL as a great guard in Jr and Sr years. But we now see that worked out.
