I didn't have a chance to respond to some responses to my last Adam Miller post in the prior thread so here's my train of thought:

Yes it's fine for players to seek out money, but don't tell me to care about him looking out for his loved ones with this final year of eligibility in terms of his potential earnings when I have been instructed since he left not to blame him for leaving but to blame the people in his ear. You don't get to spend four years absolving him of blame when here's his chance for redemption and once again if he doesn't choose us it's all about his people.
Not every person who leaves here needs to “redeem” themselves in our eyes. Not every person who isn’t actively an Illini has to be our enemy. You (and others) are actively choosing to hate on this guy. It just doesn’t have to be that way.

Insiders are now saying Ace is hedging away from our plans this coming season. But if this is the level of our team, it looks less talented on paper than what we had this previous season, and considerably less athletic. We need much more talent than this to overcome the considerable handicap we're going to get by carrying Tyler Underwood and Zach Hamer on our coaching staff.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer and I'll be thrilled if we land Andrej but if the goal is to win a Natty he isnt a 1a option on a natty team.

It will be fun to watch but man are we going to lack athleticism.
His sophomore year stats were better than Terrence Shannon. Can't go off that alone, but if the staff wants him, I want him.

I somewhat agree. Stojakovic is quite athletic. Ty is athletic. And Z is athletic (much more than Tomi even if Tomi is the better player). But after those three, the level of run-jump athleticism falls substantially.

Run/jump isn’t the main problem. It’s lateral feet quickness that can keep your man in front of you. Rodgers struggled mightily chasing guards when he played last. The only quick feet guy we have on the roster is Boswell. Playing man to man with guys that can’t move their feet is a recipe for disaster

I don't hate the player, I hate the game. That's my point with Adam Miller, I didn't want the Illini to play this game again, to negotiate not just with a player and agent but with a family organization, because there's rarely any winners in this arrangement. We just saw this happen with Morez Johnson. And if Morez ever wants to come back, it should be about the talent on the court and how he did since he left, not his one year as an Illini.

But back to Miller, once he left he should have been treated like any other potential player, but a lot of Illini fans hold onto this nostalgia, that it was never his fault he left and if he could do it again he wouldn't leave. Well here's his chance to come back, and once again it's all about what's best for his people. It's time to let the dream die. He'd be a mercenary like AJ Storr, but he was too early and doesn't have the talent.

1. Look at the stats you've posted more closely. In his last year at Texas Tech, TSJ shot 38% from 3 point range and 45.5% from the floor. He also had an even assist to turnover ratio. While at Cal, Andrej shot 31.8% from 3 and 42.7% from the floor.

2. This doesn't cover defense. Google "Andrej Stojakovic defensive rating" and you see multiple sources describe his defense as "needing improvement." No one has ever said that about TSJ.

I like this kid. Only a Sophomore. 6'7", 200 pounds. More of a Combo Guard. Averaged 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. Shot 37.4% on FGs, including 35.1% on 3-pointeers (3.0-8.4/game), and 80.5% on FTs. 25 games played, 25 games started for Elon.

There's another solid guard in the portal from Elon. He's TK Simpkins, a 6'4", 184-pound Junior. He averaged 16.4/3.1/2.6 per game, shooting 42.3% on FGs, 36.7% (2.1-5.9) on 3-pointers, and 75.6% on FTs. 27 games played, 24 games started.

I think Dorn might make the jump at Illinois and improve his percentage on 3-pointers. He has good length on defense, with hopefully the necessary athleticism, to become a good defender.

Illinois Men’s Basketball is a dumpster fire.🔥 I donated 20k to the Illinois collective 10k football and 10k to men’s basketball . Never wanted to see Adam Miller at University of Illinois ever again. The basketball program is going backwards and short of Underwood reaching the elite 8 he has to go after next season. All the Illinois Loyalty message board keyboard warriors.
Please Shut up with your Brad Underwood Fanboying. If you’re not donating 5k or more to ICON it doesn’t matter what you think

Stojakovic is a bit of a better athlete than you think but I do agree with the sentiment. Id like to see some defenders added.

If it's Stojakovic plus two other guys I'd like to see at least one guy be an explosive guard/wing if not both.
Or Stojakovic, an explosive guard wing... and a backup point guard.

The price tag for Kennard Davis Jr (SIU) is reportedly roughly the same as Miller and he doesn't have all of the handler baggage/circus

If we are going to pivot, lets start there

EDIT: Davis wants to be a starter though and that isn't guaranteed here
Amen to that! I think that Kennard Davis, although not guaranteed a starting position, would end up starting (as a 2 or 3) for the Illini, alongside Stojakovic at the other 2or 3 position.
