I'm sure Kentucky has a deep bag, but beyond Quaintance - who I'm sure was $3-4M their other 4 transfers in were not the highest ticket guys maybe, Aberdeen got $1.8M+. Purdue supposedly spent over $12M just to retain their current roster and pulled in some high priced guys so, not sure if Goodman is just exaggerating for affect at how much they can spend, but I doubt they have the current highest payroll
Yep.. I also wonder what about Kentucky's roster would lead Goodman to make a comment like this. Other than overpaying for Aberdeen?

If I were to make a comment like this about a program, it'd likely be the one that sits roughly 75 miles West of Lexington.
I think his point is that they are not done big game hunting.

Purdue spending 12 million just in retention seems way to high.

Two expensive guys in Smith and TKR but I'm sure they got pretty good deals by locking them in early and then the rest is probably spread out.

But I've also heard that Painter used to give everyone on the team the same amount of NIL.

So what exactly is "done" in this world?
Seems you can walk away from anything anyone anytime anywhere.
Asking for a friend
Fair point. 3 million seems to be the going rate for really good starting level players in the market so you need to swallow hard and be willing to go to that level.

I believe the OP is merely mentioning another name of someone interested. It isn’t a caveat; just a piece of info.
UConn is getting involved because they are waiting on an Alex Karaban NBA decision...which won't be for a month. If he goes back to school, their involvement goes away. That's the caveat. Meanwhile, we're trying to get him to commit before he leaves town. How is the going to work?

I wasn't picking at the poster or the info. The info is appreciated. We go from A to Z with EVERY one of our targets and amidst us hoping for a commitment, UConn needing insurance comes out of nowhere.

Purdue's coaching staff and donor community have a mutual conclusion that the continuity and understanding with system and teammates that makes them special and gives them an edge is not for sale in the portal at any price. Which is correct.

I am certain the money for Smith and TKR, but also Loyer, Cox, everybody, reflects that. That they are worth more to Purdue than anyone else is an accurate reflection of reality.

If you have a core of players that fit your system and with each other, you do anything to keep it. Hopefully they also know the value that it contributes to their skill development.

Not spending your whole offseason getting kids up to speed and learning to play with each other is huge. Then you can work on the minutiae of the game and building sets and developing more sophisticated schemes.

They are going to add another guard along with hopefully Andrej, maybe two. I still think Tomi will average 18ish ppg next year, mentioned it last week but people are going to be shocked at how good the guy is going to be.
I might not know ball but I kinda feel like he shows flashes of present-day Kristaps Porzingis

Some of these entry announcements sound a bit too much like certified pre-owned car sales pitches

Wait so you're telling me that they aren't just sticking around because of loyalty and their admiration for Painter?

Mingo-vic. plus, restores our Canadian pipeline

Canadia is pretty close to Croatia, amirite?
Some of the comments suggest he’s uh… not the best teammate. But the pipeline would benefit greatly! No clue if we are talking to him. IANAI

Hopefully the Brinks truck has backed up, as promised. If Stojakovic is truly our top priority, then pay him. I agree....no excuses at this point.
Do you think in any cases they actually bring the cash to meetings?

Honestly that would be pretty cool, would sell me...

Can someone clue me in on Stojakovic? DBM and O/D Rating are both well below someone like Tre White, who I'm sure costs much less. He's average from 3. I'm not seeing the excitement.

Pairing any athletic wing like Will with Tomi will be hard to stop, but I don't see the value difference in raw stats or metrics.
