The article is from May of last year. Nothing to do with this year.
Fine. But Ben has not committed to playing basketball next year - he can't transfer as the portal has closed. Brad says he wants him back but Ben clearly hasnt decided on what he wants to do next year.

What's the date on that quote again?

Also, "be able to do some of the things we did with Marcus in post-ups," is not exactly "This guy is Domask 2.0." Thinking he will be able to do one specific thing that Domask could do (which BU was wrong about) is pretty weak evidence that BU saw the guy as a straight up Domask replacement.

So with BH.....

I would assume he got his degree, so he may be adopting a "wait and see" approach since portal law doesn't pertain to grad transfers.
I was corrected the other day that the portal now does pertain to grad transfers.

Or maybe the staff isn't sure yet what they want him to do. May be waiting for decisions from other transfers. Have to give the staff credit for the way things are shaping up. Looked grim early, but now has a chance to be a home run off season on paper. Hopefully, everyone's games translates to the B10. They will need to in order to have a better season next year.

So for all intents and purposes it sounds like Ben hasn't made up his mind on what he wants to do. To me that is concerning... do we really want a kid who would rather go into a cubicle and make an entry level wage for $60K a year then play basketball for a $250K a year. If he's not committed we really have to move on.
I think you are being a little unfair to Ben - maybe he just wants to start his career and is weighing his job opportunities vs. coming back to the year long grind of basketball for a bench role. I know most of us would choose the basketball life and even making a couple of hundred grand to play basketball seems like a dream, but I think he should take his time to make an informed decision and be all-in when he does. He could have hit the portal and maximized his $$ so give him some credit that he is Illini or nothing, you gotta love that!
