Peja made like 100 million in contracts during his NBA career, played professionally overseas for a while before that, and worked in the Kings front office for several years(assistant GM).

If he had any type of decent financial advisor he has generational wealth for his family and those NBA earning have multiplied a ton by now.

I don't think Peja is trying to nickel and dime his way for his kid to get an extra million or a few hundred thousand. I would think that Peja is trying to get his kid in the best situation to develop and get into the NBA.
