I'm not worried. Hell, if the cost is close to the same I'd prefer Sarr or Watkins but I'd still love to add Stojakovic. With what sounds like the kind of $$ we are talking we will get a player maybe even 2.

So can you share what prompted the BOOMS and the confidence he was coming just a couple of days ago? As we all know, “recruiting is fluid” and sometimes insiders take skepticism personally when this is the reason for the skepticism.

unc, with less money, and seemingly a lame duck coach would be odd to me.

usc doesn’t make as much sense either - seems like it’ll be another average at best year and is he just gonna do every California school?

Florida is the one I’m eyeing

Brad still following Andrej on Instagram. Brad not following Mirkovic on Instagram.
James Harden Reaction GIF by NBA
Well see... Im not terribly concerned about Mirkovic - Brad can easily pivot off this. I was more sold on Mirkovic because it meant Ben wasnt going to be playing >30 mins a game.

…Alright, I’m gonna make this as clear as I can and hope I don’t get booted from the site. Tl;dr - info is good but it’s unfair to get people’s expectations up for no reason and then belittle them when your unnecessary double-downs didn’t come to fruition.

I like the insider info. I respect their opinions and I I love what they pass along. When I read it, I take it for what it is: biased information told by a source (in this instance, close to AS) to someone who has their foot in the Illini camp (here, the insiders). I’m not taking it as gospel, I’m taking it as words people want to hear that might or might not be completely accurate or are subject to change. For instance: If a job recruiter tells you “the hiring manager is just taking time to get a full slate of candidates” that doesn’t always mean that’s the the truth, that might be what they’re telling you to placate you.

AND THAT’S FINE. When an insider says “it’s a done deal” or gives us some tea, that’s great to know. I like that. When they say AS is *definitely* coming, I like hearing that too. When we don’t end up getting someone that they said they would, it stinks, but I move on with my day. That’s how it should be: they give what they know, we take it as we will.

My problem becomes when they double down to everyone on matters outside of their control AND THEN get upset when people call them out on it. “I was *told* that he would commit by end of day tomorrow” is different than representing to people on here that there is some hard and fast deadline or that it would blow everyone in Ubben away if it didn’t happen. Because sometimes it doesn’t happen, and when it doesn’t happen, y’all fall back on (1) recruiting is fluid; (2) well we backed off and moved on; or the one that actually gets me irritated like right now (3) something along the lines of “you people are too invested in this board and 17-22 year-old-kids decisions and need to get a life but you’re being ridiculous for the mean things you’re saying.”

This isn’t twitter, or some social media blog, where you stand to gain from your following. Insiders are commenting in here (most of them nearly every day, multiple times per day) either positing claims or defending themselves for *absolutely no reason.* The only thing you’re gaining is the dopamine hit of seeing 50+ likes on a post and some no-name account saying “oh we love you you guys are awesome.” You know, or definitely should, that these users look at you for a serious source of information and trust what you say. Sharing what you hear and being wrong happens, and yes people need to understand that and give you grace so they don’t bite the hands that feed them, but all of that goes out the window when you give people deadlines and commitment days and then give THEM shade when your statements fail. Just say “this is what I was told.” Don’t make some thing for people to count on because there’s no reason to do that. Doing that just gets people’s hopes up for no reason. You guys should absolutely understand that, but it’s ridiculous to think that you stand on some moral high ground when you gave a deadline that you didn’t have to give and were wrong about it.

Spend your time how you want to, but don’t crap on these people in here that hang on every word you say as 100% truth because you get your rocks off on feeling important to a bunch of anonymous users. Just admit when you’re wrong and try to rephrase your statements to so that people don’t get hung up on stuff like this. I think a ton of the ire you’re receiving on here goes away if you do that.

Love ya Lou, but pivoting from being shocked and stunned at some of the responses that you were getting(just yesterday) to it being understandable is a complete 180.

Ultimately, listening to 18-22 on subjects is questionable regardless of topic, so putting anything in ink.....until it's in ink....is never going to be a winning bet. The tone has changed and while still positive, the vibe that this was locked, signed, sealed and delivered was an overstatement.

Time will tell.

I wonder how much branding plays into the AS situation. I'm assuming he has some savvy cats in his corner, and a quick commit doesn't do much for growing your national profile. So many "big fish" in the portal. Seems like waiting to "officially" commit/announce and hedging on whether other schools are in the mix would definitely increase his national exposure. More buzz can't hurt the brand, right? Especially for a guy who is NBA-bound. Good timing of announcement (in terms of the "news cycle") and more people talking about you nationally both seem like they would grow national profile for a guy like AS.

My sense is once @LvilleILL is able to elaborate more, this will most certainly be the case.

Spent too much of it on paying their AD to get them into the tournament

This seems like our booms were a bit off target......again..

Our board members were getting ripped for not believing this was over, despite Wednesday's euphoria and commentary that it would be the biggest recruiting screwjob in our program's history if it didn't happen.

It went from a formality on Tuesday, that noon was the big time on Wednesday, the the EOD was the expectation, then it could go into the weekend and now.....other visits are pending.

A couple of comments and a question:

1)People need to not live and die with kids changing their minds from one day to the next.

2)When it comes to money, take #1 and times it by 100.

3)For those who don't have kids, they are going to tell adults what they think they want to hear when it comes to just about everything.

4)Why are we so awful at navigating the portal? This is like the third year running where we get donkey punched in our locked targets. RayJ is still fresh in the mind. Indy wanted Brad fired and Sean hired after that debacle.

All that said, things are never dull around here! I think that Denzel needs to be withheld until the announcement has been made from here on out. It's a small, yet smart alteration to our recruiting proceedings. We've gone to the boom button too soon and our bombs are exploding over the ocean, 1,000 miles from land.

Maybe instead the rest of the board should stop pinning their happiness on the decisions made by a group of 17-22 year olds.
To be fair, what's the point of a fan(short for fanatics) forum, if those who aren't passionate aren't part of it. If it wasn't for irrational, passionate, demanding and strung out fans across the country....NIL wouldn't be in existence because they wouldn't be throwing money at each sports institution and it would have been accepted that free tuition would have been sufficient compensation for student athletes.

It's the fans and TV(again, the fans) that drive this whole ordeal, so can't get mad when they take it to a ridiculous level.
