TBH, I am more excited about Jamir Watkins, overall, but not sure where he places in the draft!

"Whatever happens will be" All I Want
Illinois should put a full-court press on Jamir Watkins. Undy and OA: work some magic and get it done!

I asked recently of anyone on this thread, including insiders: Is Illinois still recruiting Watkins? And how high is his asking price?

Just because we assessed a player's worth lower than they ended up didn't mean we weren't capable of spending on that player. We just pivoted to a similar player for the price we wanted to pay. I wouldn't call that outbid. I call that smart resource allocation.
I hope people realize that "smart resource allocation" offers no solace to most fans. We want to win. Like, win big. Like national title big. While you might get there with some sort of "smart resource allocation" you're more likely to get there by over paying for the talent that you identify that will win titles for you.

well it's real simple. I don't care how optimistic you are, I don't care what you heard. The fact that he visited and a week later he still hasn't committed can be viewed as nothing but a negative. Clearly he didn't think our offer was enough and he's out looking for more. We may end up landing him, but my guess would be we had to up our original bid to do it.
In other words, as a portal recruit, he was recruited through the recruiting process.

Specifically, at this point in time, if we miss on Stojakovic for whatever reason, please "name a similar player for the price" who's left in the portal, or who's hidden in Europe, that Illinois could sign for the coming season. And at a "price we wanted to pay."

I don't know what this means? I was referring to how everyday we got told stop worrying he's committed. That seems more and more challenging to believe as each day passes. We all know how the recruiting process works, but this has shades of Demetrius Jackson written on it.

I prefer the staff operate like ninjas so nobody else gets wind of a guy until we have him what passes for locked up this offseason.

brads in big trouble if he cant land a 1A type of player
Hurtful but truthful - all the talk about Yaxel going NBA... if he's (allegedly) getting 4mil, he'd need to be in the top 15 range to match if he leaves. Who knows, but can certainly make a whole lot coming back. Certainly a big time pickup for Michigan if it does come to fruition.

At this point I’ll be pumped if AS picks Illini, if not that’s okay too. Seemed like a lot of people were sad when Storr didn’t transfer here but then he sucked at Kansas 🤷🏻‍♂️. There’s always a backup plan if needed.

Final decision has been made privately from what I heard. Graphic could be released at any time, not even going to guess a timeline at this point. Shouldn't go past Tuesday worse case is what I will say. Pretty confident it's us.

Small chance he picks UNC, but we have way more things working in our favor right now.
If the final decision has been made privately, and he hasn't even visited UNC, why would he choose UNC??? Agree there's probably a "small chance" , but from a practical sense, not nearly enough to crack the "we've lost him" deal imo.
How much did UNC's late push bump his price even more?
This is a much more practical question. Either we get him or we don't, BUT .... don't know how much we were planning on the "Stoj, plus another quality piece" deal, but if we were, is that now off the table?

plus, paying too much of an absurd amount, your risking your ROI binds with donors and also might not be the best look for the locker room side of things.

NO. Things can always unlock. Ridiculous statement.
Then what is even the point of ever calling anything "a lock?"

Pretty sure they common usage of saying something is "a lock" is the same as saying "guarantee" or "100%." I've never heard of someone saying "it's a lock" when they mean "it looks like that's the situation now, but that is of course subject to change."

IMHO and experience "agreement in principle" simply means both sides are still talking and playing nice in the sandbox, neither side has told the other to F off or walked away from the table. But it is a long, long way from getting er done in multi-party negations. I still hope we land Andrej, but the only guy who knows what is going to happen at this point is Andrej.

Ahh, the old "we didn't want him anyway" rationale.

I hope our fiscally conservative NIL spending doesn't bite us directly in the rear.

Or he's a thoughtful, analytical person that takes his time with important decisions, because from his perspective there is no terrible hurry as long as he has enough time to get settled and join a team for summer workouts.

Nothing online of note at all. We’ll all find out together, I guess. Who’s bringing the doughnuts?

Did Andrej even take a visit to UNC? If not and he picks them over us and for less that would be a horrible look for us. Hoping the crystal ball ends up our way for real.
