I don’t think there’s really that big of a snag in NIL contract negotiations. The $ is there. Hand shakes and smiles took place.

The one caveat may be waiting to see how much money $ UNC can raise. Their NIL situation wasn’t ideal going into this. People assume a bunch of money would be available that was earmarked for Drake Powell. Not that simple, though.

But I think it’s primarily about Andrej deciding where he wants to play. Simple as that.

There are no concerns about the Illinois staff. Pretty good vibes on that front. There are probably more questions about Hubert Davis.

There is also a chance that Florida and / or Gonzaga have been working on Andrej in stealth mode.
Good info, thank you. I really appreciate your approach to sharing intel.

Do they though? Each NIL contract is unique. And there’s a difference between money in the bank and money pledged.
Honestly, it sounds like the staff has done all they can do. He enjoyed his visit by all accounts, the money is comparable, and he didn’t have an issue with any of the assistants or whatever…

If he just decides he wants to play somewhere else, nothing was ever going to change that.

Hopefully he wants to play here and make a run at the whole shebang.

Everyone, including myself, needs to be patient. If it's meant to be, it will be. If not, we are no worse than we were. Many years ago our family was checking into the Marriott hotel at Marco Island FL. Another family arrived at the same time wanting to check in as well. Their kids were tired and fussy, so I told the clerk to check them in first.

The clerk assigned their room and commented to them it was the last room of that type available. I nervously started to wish we had checked in before them, but stayed quiet. The desk clerk asked if we would object to a first floor room instead of a high floor one, as we had originally requested. I asked if it would be comparable to what we reserved and was told he was sure we would be satisfied. then thanked us for being patient. When we opened the door to our room, we were amazed they had given us an unbelievable 4 room, beach front lanai for the whole week at no additional cost.

So, we might get who we expected or if not, may get someone who turns out to be much much better.
You just never know. I L L.........

Kind of a silly thing to say in a free agent marketplace.

Maybe we don't have more money or maybe we're unwilling to expend more money on this player, but everyone has a price.

So, are there any kids looking to re-class like Riley did last year?

Also, how sure are they that Petrovic is going to be ruled eligible by the NCAA?

I mean you’re not wrong about your last statement. But do you think UNC has less money in the bank from their NiL collective than Illinois does?

Is this deal primarily about money? Or fit? Or exposure? Or system?

So you posted it there and not here also? Nice though.

You would have taken Miller over Petrovic? I see it as we decided instead of going for the field goal, we went for it instead and scored.

Was agreeing with you, I think giving up on the deal at this stage would be silly

That often happens to me when I use my reading glasses to read this forum...but am too lazy to pull it close enough for them to help. Often when someone says " the ref called a jump ball" I instead interpret "Jeff took a dump in the hall"!!

AS and family might just want a review of agreement prior to committing. Possibly even time to get back home to see if it still right.

My concern is Champaign isn't Bay Area California. Possibly a factor?

Well clearly we were never nor are we now any kind of lock. It just seems like he must not be sure? I really can’t believe money (say 250k either way) would make any difference as he is set for life long before he ever got paid for playing basketball?

Certainly plausible. It’s a big decision.

Being deliberate doesn't mean being hesitant. I'm sure a lot more of the story will come out in due time as to how confident insiders were vs how confident they should have been.

For those saying we should set fast deadlines and if they don't accept; quickly move on... Horrible idea.
Clearly they have never worked in an industry where you bid on projects.
In simplistic terms:
What Not to Do When Seeking Bidding Negotiation Success:
Being Arrogant or Dismissive: Not taking the client's concerns seriously or being unwilling to compromise. You can't bully the process.
Giving Up Too Easily: Becoming discouraged by initial pushback during negotiation without exploring potential compromises.
Delaying or Rushing the Process: Not allowing sufficient time for thorough proposal development or pressuring the client for a quick decision.
By understanding the strategic steps involved in securing bidding negotiation projects and actively avoiding these common pitfalls, you significantly increase your chances of success in a competitive landscape.

Someone earlier stated that he believed Illinois will miss on adding Stojakovic, so the Illini needed to look now for other/lesser players still available in the portal (or elsewhere, i.e. Europe). The following is a list of some players/guards that might still be available in the transfer portal. And none of them are as good as Stojakovic! (I have no idea what European players might still be available at this point in time.)

George Kimble III, 6'2' 184-pound freshman, Eastern Kentucky, 18.0/3.7/3.2 and 38.0/34.8/85.1
TK Simpkins, 6'4" 184-pound junior, Elon, 16.4/3.1/2.6 and 42.3/36.7/75.6
Amaree Abram, 6'4" 195-pound junior, Louisiana Tech, 12.3/4.4/1.7 and 42.2/37.3/84.5
AJ Brown, 6'4" 210-pound sophomore, Ohio, 13.2/3.2/1.1 and 47.1/38.8/82.0
Alex Chaikin, 6'5" 177-pound freshman, Lafayette, 13.9/2.6/1.1 and 49.8/42.9/84.0
Tyler McGhie, 6'5" 195-pound senior, UC San Diego, 16.6/4.1/1.7 and 41.5/37.7/86.3
Ali Dibba, 6'5" 205-pound senior, Southern Illinois, 17.2/4.8/2.0 and 49.0/33.7/66.0

I like the two freshmen, Kimble and Chaikin, but I don't think we should "recruit over" our two incoming freshmen, Jason Lee and Keaton Wagler. The sophomore Brown looks to have potential, but the Illini probably need more mature players (get older!) this upcoming season.

Among the above group, that would leave juniors Simpkins (Elon) and Abram (LA Tech), and seniors McGhie (UC San Diego) and Dibba SIU) as possibilities. I don't know which of those 4 schools play the best competition in the tougher conferences...but I'd look at that aspect for sure, plus lots of videos/tapes of the players. I'd probably take 2 of 3 from Simpkins, McGhie, and Dibba, and hope they could fill in the wing/2-guard gap for next season with the Illini.

Of course, there's Freshman BOOGIE FLAND (Arkansas)! He was a 5-star prospect in HS, the #1 rated PG in the Clas of 2024. He could start as a Combo Guard for Illinois next season. I think he could really lift the Illini team to greatness.

Exactly. Sales wouldn't be a great career choice for a great majority of the posters.
