I don't think that he has a degree. It sounded like Andre was worried about family. Any chance Peja could be an assistant coach? I am sure all the international guys would love that. I am sure he has some good experience he could share.

I would presume that the widespread adoption of the prep school route had already taken away a good chunk of their influence too. These days, your top notch players are often going elsewhere for their latter year(s) in HS.Most of them are likely to see their influence wane anyway in the portal/NIL era, if I had to guess. Not gone completely, but reduced.
So my biggest concern is, how do we stop and who do we have that can stop Big Ten teams interior game like Maryland who just ate us alive I don’t see anybody that can stop interior bigs. I applaud what we have accomplished. I still think we needed a banger and we didn’t get one.
There will definitely be times where we miss having a player like Morez on the roster. That said, we should be able to counter some of that lack of brute force with lots of length. Having Z help Tomi on the weak side will (hopefully) be a tough combo to score against. Unless of course Hamer finds a way to mess that up...So my biggest concern is, how do we stop and who do we have that can stop Big Ten teams interior game like Maryland who just ate us alive I don’t see anybody that can stop interior bigs. For the most part, their students and alumni don't care about athletes all that much so I don't really buy that boast from the Stanford donor. Sure, they have plenty of whales and you realistically only need a handful or so, but there's a reason all their buildings are named Arrillaga - they hit him up again and again. On the Stanford-poaching-mad-portal-talent topic: I was at a Virginia Tech basketball game last December in Blacksburg. Snagged last-minute tickets on SeatGeek in a section for donors. Got chatting with one of them adjacent to us about NIL and how VT funneled its bag to football, leaving men's basketball a bit hungry.
They guy said he had gone out to the VT-Stanford game in Palo Alto that fall. He was talking to a Stanford donor at the game who was bragging that given the high net worth of Stanford alums and the new NIL landscape, Stanford would be able to purchase nattys in revenue sports and that few if any programs would be able to compete with them.
I found that vaguely plausible but I've not seen not any evidence that it's afoot. They need money and coaching talent. The former is a necessary but insufficient condition for success. We'll see.
His FT % was great last year on a lot of shots, which bodes well for his overall shooting. I didn't watch Cal a lick this last year but my guess is his low FG/3PT percentages are due in part to having to take a lot of tough shots at the end of the clock. Would be interesting to see stats showing his percentages for shots early in the shot clock vs. those for shots taken in the last 5 seconds of the clock.I'll begin with this...
My eyes are squarely on how good Petrovich is and I think he may be the most intriguing player we have on the roster. If he is really good (and I think he might be) then I think we can be as good as we want to be. My only real concern is size...dude is tiny. But he is super fast, super quick and I can't wait to see him with this core.
A few other thoughts...
- Ty being back becomes bigger and bigger the farther we get on the off-season
- Brandon Lee is better then you think he is...kid is good and I don't think he has a big role, but I think he can really score it
- On the other side, Wagler will need at LEAST a year before he's ready
- It looks like they are really gonna go with the Twins playing together alot...which makes me feel, optimistic and uneasy.
- The defense is gonna be...something to watch.
I'm watching the shooting percentages for Andrej...I think he can shoot and if that comes together this year...he'll be on the NBA radar
I personally feel they can shoot it but the numbers really don't show it yet. The best percentage 3 pt shooter is Big Z at 38% right? Shooting needs to impr9ve for most of them. The challenge is now on the defensive end...and on BU to fit the pieces together and get better at in game adjustments and situational deployment....not easy but he has done well the past two years, especially last year with a team that lacked foot speed on the defensive end. Fortunately, he can put a team on the floor that speaks close to the same language...even though he can't!!
Yet another fascinating roster with some complex problems and unknown chemistry. This should be another riveting season of Illini hoops.
I have no clue if there is another add to this roster that will improve it on both ends, but we will all be checking in daily for the next two months with some hope. My fondest hope is that there is a unified goal that all can buy into completely and fill their roles to the max...while understanding that achieving that goal will be cherished for the rest of their lives.
Mirk can bang. He did so in the hoop summit and he is 255 now so let's see what he looks like after a summer with Fletch.Working with Fletch, maybe the Ivisics will be TWO "bangers" for the Illini next season?
Best player in this game was Luka Bogavac for SC Derby. He scored 27 pts including 5-10 from 3. @Indy Illini Fan had briefly mentioned him earlier this month. He's a 41% shooter from 3 this year. Good size at 6'5". Any chance there?
lock up your children
Thanks so much for posting this. Impressive stuff from both Illinois guys.

So your saying Peja has some eligibility left!!!I don't think that he has a degree.
Do "-vac's" get along with "-vic's"?Best player in this game was Luka Bogavac for SC Derby. He scored 27 pts including 5-10 from 3. @Indy Illini Fan had briefly mentioned him earlier this month. He's a 41% shooter from 3 this year. Good size at 6'5". Any chance there?
Username doesn’t check out.How do you figure? Still don’t have a backup PG.
We basically have Boswell and a bunch of tall SF/PF/C types.
There is enough shooting where he can do what he does best - swiss army knife that plays 1-5.Not sure what his role is yet, but Ty fits so well with this roster.

I get that Ben's defense isn't great, but I still think the issues are a bit overblown. He was not (and never will be) a stopper, but he learned how to maintain a position between the offensive player and the basket and keep his hands up when the player went to shoot. He didn't gamble (wouldn't have been effective at it in any case) and try to blocks shots, but he also did not foul. He played within the system but was also liable to be bullied by bigger/stronger players. We all rightly wanted (and expected) more from him, but he wasn't a true turnstile like Plummer was, and the numbers bear that out. His problems were primarily on the other side of the ball; if he had been effective on offense, I don't think we'd hear so much about his defense.Obviously anything is possible.
Ben was 38.2% 3FG off bench (would rank in top 20 amongst NCAA teams)
Ben was 33.3% 3FG as starter (would rank ~220th of 364 D1 teams)
He was a liability as a starter on both ends. Unacceptable 33% as "3 pt shooting specialist" and a turnstile on D.
I'm fine with him as a limited minutes bench guy. If they get Filip Jokic/another 4, I doubt Ben comes off the bench much at all.
Mirkovic is big and strong (6-9, 250) and while not especially "athletic," according to one of the scouting report is physically strong and a very good rebounder. He might be a Morez who can shoot. There will definitely be times where we miss having a player like Morez on the roster.
