I think he is going to be really good. I like that with age comes experience so he’s probably been guarded a lot of different ways. We certainly don’t have a lot of guys with his on ball abilities.

If I’m scouting against us, I feel like when he comes in I put my taller guard on him, don’t help, and make him score over my taller guy. Pull-up jumpers are fine or you can play the angles and get the blow by block from behind, because as fast as petrovic is he doesn’t elevate a lot.

I’m interested to see how he handles that if teams do it. My guess is, with his strengths, he’s ideally pushing the crap out of the ball so the defense doesn’t get set the way they want to.
I agree, I'm excited to see how Petrovic does next year, but I also think we should temper expectations. He's not KJ and won't be able to score the way KJ did with his ability to finish at the rim and the step back threes. I think Petrovic will be more under control, turn the ball over less and hopefully adjust to the things he can't do in college better/quicker than KJ did. Petrovic relies on his quickness a lot and blowing by guys, he won't be able to do that in college nearly as much. He finishes at the rim a lot now, but will likely struggle with that in college against quicker big men/shot blockers. He won't be able to get his shot off as easily. But if he settles into his role as playmaker, distributor and hitting the open catch and shoot three, that will be a really effective PG for us. He should be here multiple years and he's not on NBA radars so I think that will make the transition easier - he has nothing to "prove" or show folks to get to the next level.

I think Petrovic will be very effective for us. The only thing that I feel he won't do as well as KJ is step back threes. It looks like he can get to the basket as easily as KJ, though not as tall. Shouldn't make much difference as KJ very rarely finished above the rim. I also expect Petro to take care of the ball better. Excited to see what he can do for this team.

I think I’ll be fine if step back threes aren’t even a part of his game.

Florida shot 35% from 3 last year. they averaged 24 attempts per game (43.5% of total FGA) Ranked 86th in NCAA
Illinois shoot 31%, from 3 last year, they averaged 28 attempts per game (47% of total FGA). Ranked 311th in NCAA

Not huge difference in number of attempts but better results

Illini 11.5 TO per game Florida 10.6

Florida defense
Illini 4 steals per age Florida 8 steals
Illini ranked 94th in defense efficiency Florida 21st

If Illini can improve their defence and shoot better on 3's we could have very good year.
