I know this will bring strong criticism. I am truly thankful for the Underwood era of Illini basketball. But, whatever happened to the TRUE point guard of the past? A point guard who could blow by any defender, whether it be a 6 foot 5 inch long defender or whatever, somebody that had the ability to set up teammates for wide open shots. I am aware that Coach Underwood loves tall and long guards, but how many instances do we see opposing teams expose us with a lightning quick guard that our tall and long guards cannot seem to stop them from driving and dishing. I am aware that some will say, that those shorter guards cannot defend our taller guards, but I think the benefits of a true playmaker, no matter the heighth, is more beneficial than a taller/longer guard. I hardly ever post, but I wanted to get my point out there. Let the responses begin, I will not respond to any positive or negative comments. But, I will monitor the responses.

If we had that much cash I'd want Bogavac. He can shoot and fits with out ba-vic scheme for 2025 for the most part give or take a vowel.

have you been asleep the last year or 2? Every recruitment is a money grab. There is no more, I like the coach, good school, good program, it is now who will pay me the most. Yes they may not always pick the school that offers the absolute most money if it is close, but it's more purchasing than recruiting these days.

And you don't pay a kid $3 m+ to sit him on the bench.

Me likey! Jason Crowe Jr. would be an awesome addition to the Illini. Does Coach Crowder have a connection with Crowe that might help the Illini with this recruitment? Coach Crowder grew up in LA and attended Verbum Dei High School in LA before playing college ball at Penn in Philadelphia. I understand that
Crowder also coached AAU ball for Paul Pierce's program.

You're right, it's early for a Class of 2027 recruit. Do you have any (early) info that young Mr. Crowe might someday be a candidate to reclassify to the Class of 2026?
Not in 2027.
How about Adou Thiero? He would give us a defensive presence and the athleticism we need. He’s been in the 2nd round in most mock drafts I’ve seen. Maybe that’s unrealistic.
Not in transfer portal.

i mean will he even start? was a pure money grab recruitment and he used our offer to up his market value and eventually dump us. was probably never the plan to commit, and to take it down from the get-go. recruitments like this don't signal everyday guy. dodged a bullet with this one.
This is a bad take. You're upset because he chose the school that offered him the most money? That also happens to be a storied program that puts out lottery picks to the NBA every year?

He's not exactly "a 6-5 junkyard dog SG who can drill 3's"... but I think that 6'6" 225 SG Damari Monsanto of UT San Antonio is still in the portal. Monsanto averaged 11.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists this past season. He shot 40.7% on FGs, including an excellent 42.0% on 3-pointers, and he shot an outstanding 93.3% on FTs. I'm not sure if he's a junkyard dog, but he's definitely a veteran with lots of experience. He's listed as a SG, but he has enough size to play some SF also. I doubt he would cost $3M, or even $2M. And I'm just guessing, but it would probably take less than $1M to get him to Illinois. It was once indicated on this Board that Orlando Antigua has a previous relationship with Monsanto.
I think Hummer took his spot, more or less. I suspect it's a money thing. So Hummer is our 3pt specialist. Again, I miss Plummer. I know he is like only 6' but he played bigger than that. I just like fact there's someone you can count on when you need a three.

You just described the point guard we have coming in.

I read the comment about Ben H. struggling in post defense and agree that we
should he better, but lets face it, Ben struggled at the defensive end all year. 4's
who handled the ball went around him, so he backed off and they got open 3's.
5's banged with him and got easy shots inside. his 3 pt percentage was low
enough that he was a liability at the other end and he had no booty ball game.
Maybe fletch can turn him into a legit 4 and he can play D and rebound this
year? a little confidence at that end might add to his shooting percentage too.

I think he is going to be really good. I like that with age comes experience so he’s probably been guarded a lot of different ways. We certainly don’t have a lot of guys with his on ball abilities.

If I’m scouting against us, I feel like when he comes in I put my taller guard on him, don’t help, and make him score over my taller guy. Pull-up jumpers are fine or you can play the angles and get the blow by block from behind, because as fast as petrovic is he doesn’t elevate a lot.

I’m interested to see how he handles that if teams do it. My guess is, with his strengths, he’s ideally pushing the crap out of the ball so the defense doesn’t get set the way they want to.
