With the current state of basketball, seems better to go mid major if your out of top 30 and get a bunch of touches, shots, playing time... then transfer to higher Div 1 in year 2 or 3.

Or option is to use a redshirt year in hopes of getting PT in year 2 at high Div 1.

Still think if we fill one more spot if needs to be a 6-5 junkyard dog SG who can drill 3's.

Tre could have filled that role IMHO, not sure what the full story was. Maybe Ty can do this job as well, without a proven 3.
That dude Indy posted from Bellaire in Houston could potentially fit the bill. Seems like he’s off the radar now and idk how much PT he’d get on a team of 22 year olds. He’s built like a grown man already though. He’ll probably be a nfl tight end in 5 years lol

I would think that it would also depend on your goals and aspirations. Being on the bench at Illinois, getting the best facilities and coaching and a great education (if you choose to focus on it) can be a great start for someone who is unlikely to get paid to play after college.

if a HS kid needs a body makeover (most do), a school with a conditioning/strength program to get "fletched"
is the best route. he's not going to get "fletched" at a D2 or mid major. plus a year practicing against the best
competition gives a kid the option to stay and play or move along to another program, probably a mid major.
not great for illinois but good for the kid. you are right, this would probably happen as a redshirt.

I think that player costs about $3M these days, if you can find them.
Quincy G 2.0 would be nice on this squad for sure and I doubt would cost that for someone like him.

We needed more physicality diwn low last year at the 5 spot. After Tomi we didnt match up. I think we are a little better off this season and too much was asked of Rez and Ben to guard 5s. Theywere overmatched. Hopefully Mirk and big Z can jeep Bem out of those matchups. It was too much to ask of Ben. I really hope Ben exceeds expectations in better match ups. I believe he will improve shooting the ball. His D should be better this season defending 4s. Defending 5 regularly won't be expected from Ben this year with Brad's moves this off season. We wont be counting on undersized players to guard 5s like we did so often last season. Hopefully, that will have a positive impact on Ben on both ends if the floor and the teams success. I think it will.

Adding more depth never hurts and he seems like he can help across multiple dimensions- shooter, rebounder, defender at the SF/SG position

Plus he’s a senior with 4 years of experience- to clarify I think he would just have one year left, correct? The NCAA waiver this year gives guys who played non D-1 one more year like Ben, but not two more years
would love to have the option to sit either Boswell or Petrovic and play another guard with stokavic at the 3.
