I don't miss us being featured in that particular publication 😄
It was founded by Illini superfan and alumnus Will Leitch (from Mattoon). The problems were that (a) Deadspin was founded when we peaked and became popular during our long decline, and (b), its irreverent culture meant that a lot of the other writers intentionally went out of their way to heckle Leitch by roasting his teams.

Their breaking of the Te'o story was iconic: https://deadspin.com/manti-teos-dead-girlfriend-the-most-heartbreaking-an-5976517/

NIL situation and last 25 years are interesting things to compare. Personally, I’d hold off on the ‘continue’ as the only meeting over the last year+ was a 39 point Illini win.

PSU certainly needs to figure things out.

Go Illini
I was saying they continue to do so, even in the NIL era (recent monumental collapse at the high school gym). There will always be outliers. It doesn't matter how good we are/bad they are, they are very rarely an "easy" win for us. The 2 worst games that I've ever seen in person were the 38-33 disaster and the birthday party hangover :poop:show. I'm all for it if this is our new norm with them (y)

The main reason I despise Duke is because Duke=Puke. The phonemes are strong with this one...

Not great for KK Mega Basket

I thought it was Super Mega Basket? Did they have a meeting and were like ‘well I guess losing all these good players we should change the name now…’

Would bet many ‘circle back’, ‘ducks in a row’, ‘low-hanging fruit’, ‘move the needle’, ‘step up to the plate’and ‘push the envelope’ were said

Edit: seems it was Mega Superbet…. anyway lol

would've felt much, much better about the roster if we were instead able to pull the Dix, Sellers, Sarr, Big Z that was once mentioned (along with the 5 returners from last year).

Dix/Sellers/Sarr vs Petrovic/Stojakovic/Mirkovic

Is that what we’re evaluating? The main thing with the first group is all 3 are one year rentals.

Anyhow-

I never was a fan of giving Dix $2M, Stojakovic is a level above Dix. Has multiple years left, McD AA, 18ppg guy, etc. Clearly brings star power as opposed to Dix who is just another guy.

Sellers was going to be a bench piece. Again, a one year rental. Mirkovic was on Nike Hoops Summit. He’s an elite recruit with multiple years of eligibility.

Then you have Petrovic vs Sarr. Honestly I’d rather have an extra ball handler. Sarr is going to be a really good player for one season. Petrovic may only get one year also, but he’s 3 years older and I’d bet will have just as big of an impact at the college level.

Is Petrovic going to be cleared to play? Didn’t some other 22 year old just get deemed ineligible a few days ago?

I want to preface that I'm happy with our group.

Seeing that Sarr only went for 2.5 mill does give me some sour grapes - gonna be honest. Seems like we could have gotten Sarr and Dix for less than Stoj and Petro. Only time will tell which group will fair better - I would say consensus currently is that Sarr and Dix might be the better gets. Sarr > Petro in all the ratings Ive see and same with Dix > Stoj in all the rating I've seen. Say that Stoj is better than Dix goes again what every single rating list out there - again I'm not saying he is or isn't but outside of this message board every guru has Dix as rated higher.

All in all, I am happy. For my compliants with Brad - I will say the dude is excellent at pivotting and plan Bs - who often turn out better than plan As.

I asked AI to grok all ratings and opinions of Dix and Stojakovic that exist across the entire internet and this is what it had to say:

“It's generally considered that Andrej Stojakovic is the better player between Josh Dix and Andrej Stojakovic. Stojakovic was highly sought after in the transfer portal and is considered a top-tier prospect with the potential to be a strong NBA player, while Dix is a proven shooter but may not have the same ceiling as Stojakovic”

There’s a reason Andrej pulled nearly twice the NIL that Dix did

Dix has insane efficiency and I can only imagine how a kid that shoots 50.7% from the field and 42.2% from three - would do at Illinois where they always have a green light to put up a 3pter.

Having watched both Stojakovic and Dix play. Stojakovic is a far better player. Both offensively and defensively. Dix had great efficiency numbers but was a huge beneficiary from playing in Frans system. He's more of a role player than a true lead option imo.

The rating services aren't necessarily always correct and the transfer ratings are all over the place.

If Sarr ended up only getting 2.5 then I would have loved to add him to Stojakovic and Petrovic but I have trouble believing he only got that because he was Dukes pivot off of Coward staying pro.

For our roster Stojakovic and Petrovic seem like the better fits than Dix/Sarr. We got exactly what we needed with a true #1 scorer and a primary ball handler. Dix/Sarr are both role players that would be asked to take on a larger share or fill a different role than what they have in the past which is a bit risky.

Stoj and Petrovic may end up being the better players, but calling Sarr a role player seems a bit sour grapes. He's probably the best of the 4.

I don't really think it's sour grapes.

Sarr is the most physically talented and will likely be the best pro and highest drafted(though I wouldn't be surprised to see Stojakovic shoot really well and rise up draft boards) but I think Sarr's role as a freshman will likely be a do it all role player which is not a diss of him at all.

I dont think his offensive game is developed enough to function as a number 1 option at the moment but he is a very long and high level athlete that should make an immediate impact in transition and defensively(if he's bought in defensively) while being able to function as a secondary/tertiary scorer in the half court with cuts, spot up shooting, and attacking closeouts.

I would love to add Sarr or a guy like him to the current roster and I think another wing like him is kind of the missing piece from being a real championship contender.

Role player doesn't mean bad. Sarr is not going to be a guy that you can throw the ball to and ask him to get a bucket and he's not going to initiate offense. He's going to get buckets in transition, off cuts, rebounds, and movement. We dont quite have anyone with his athleticism but we have guys that fill a similar role.
